NEBDN Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing (RQF) – CFMSR information pack
Overview and recognition
The NEBDN Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing is a regulated qualification, approved by Ofqual in England and the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland. It covers all the learning outcomes in the General Dental Council’s Safe Practitioner framework and therefore gives confidence to trainee dental nurses and employers alike. The course is structured around ten units that develop knowledge, skills and professional behaviours across clinical practice, communication, responding to medical emergencies, teamwork and professional development. Assessment is three fold: an electronic portfolio of evidence compiled in the workplace, an externally set online knowledge test (multiple choice) and a professional discussion with an NEBDN examiner. Upon achievement of the qualification, students can apply for registration with the General Dental Council (GDC), opening the door to a medical career in dentistry.
The regulated Level 3 Diploma replaces the former NEBDN National Diploma for learners registering from 1 July 2025 onwards, although students already enrolled before that date will still complete the existing programme. The new diploma attracts UCAS points and may provide access to further funding.
Course delivery at CFMSR
At the Centre for Medical Sciences & Research (CFMSR), we deliver the NEBDN Level 3 Diploma through live, interactive video lectures. Sessions are led by a seasoned dental professional with over 20 years’ experience and an exceptional record preparing students for the NEBDN OSCEs. Each lecture blends theory with practical insights and is supplemented by an electronic portfolio of evidence and tutor guidance. In addition to online study, NEBDN rules require every trainee to work in a dental practice as a trainee dental nurse for at least 16 hours per week. This work placement experience underpins the portfolio and ensures students can put their learning into practice.

Bookings are already open for the 2025 intake. We are offering an early bird discount of £800 off our standard website price.
