Blood in Chinese Medicine is the root of the ethereal soul, it resides in the Liver organ

If we have a Liver blood deficiency, the functions predominate over the structure. And at night it can get worse where there is excessive movement of the ethereal soul.

If we have a liver blood deficiency, we can have many dreams at night. And during the day we can be very dreamy, vague, not practical at all

We usually have many dreams during the night, but when we remember the dream, it's because it was intense enough to activate consciousness.

In other words, there were several micro awakenings.
Sleep shouldn't have any function, it's just Yin, with no function at all.

The dreams of blood deficiency are not good dreams. They are heavy dreams that carry the melancholy of the day, nightmares and bad night.

I love using the Liver 8 acupuncture point, He-Sea point of the Liver channel, which is an important point to Nourishes Blood and Yin.

Anxiety in Chinese Medicine due to the Heart Yin deficiency presents symptoms of nocturnal palpitation, afternoon and night sweating, especially on the face, chest and armpit, stronger smell in perspiration, night restlessness, insomnia, tiredness, lack of concentration, urine scanty and dark, poor memory, vague anxiety, warmer hands especially at night.

Pulse: empty and fast
To treat this disorder it is important to understand the root of the problem and observe the signs that your body presents.

Acupuncture can help to calm the mind and relieve anxiety, but depending on the diagnosis, might have to be combined with a treatment plan to resolve the unbalanced movement of Qi and its unsettling effect on the Heart and mind.

Spleen 10, known as Xuehai or “Sea of Blood” in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is an acupuncture point known for its versatile healing properties. This point is a must-have choice in a variety of health scenarios, which brings many benefits.

I usually use this point a lot in cases of irregular menstruation, recovery after surgery, postpartum, and patients with anaemia. In cases of eczema, acne, hives, I apply this point in dispersion to reduce the heat in the blood.

When you visit an acupuncturist, be prepared for a different set of questions compared to those you're accustomed to in Western medicine. In Chinese medicine, practitioners employ specialized terminology like "heat," "fire," "deficiency," "cold," and "heaviness" to describe the internal sensations of your body. It's akin to narrating a story using these terms. For instance, "fire" in this context doesn't refer to actual flames but symbolizes excessive heat or inflammation within your body. Astonishingly, in Chinese Medicine, feelings of anxiety can be attributed to an excess of heat in the heart.

They also inquire about symptoms like the sensation of heavy legs, specific types of discharges, or bloating. These inquiries aid in assessing the possibility of a condition called Spleen Deficiency. It's all about discerning any imbalances and determining how to enhance your well-being.

Chinese medicine delves into the concepts of Yin Yang , energy and blood, within organs such as the spleen, kidneys, lungs, liver and heart.

It's essential to remember that Chinese Medicine doesn't focus on diseases; it emphasizes patterns or syndromes within your body. Think of it as looking at the bigger picture and harmonizing all aspects for improved overall well-being.

Understanding these distinct principles can provide you with valuable insights into your body's functioning. If you're curious and open to exploring an alternative approach to your health, consider scheduling a session with a Chinese Medicine practitioner. You may uncover unique strategies to enhance your overall health and well-being.

In TCM, the theory of Yin and Yang synthesises the Taoist view that in the Universe we constantly have two forces acting simultaneously.

Through the manifestation of Yin and Yang, everything is formed and transformed.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the theory of Yin Yang is used to analyse and diagnose illnesses. This theory states that everything in the universe, including the human body, has both Yin and Yang aspects. Yin represents qualities such as calmness, weakness, coldness, dampness and hypofunction, while Yang represents qualities such as restlessness, strength, heat, dryness, hyperfunctioning and acuteness.

When making a diagnosis in TCM, clinical information is analysed and categorised as Yin or Yang information. This means that symptoms, signs and other clinical manifestations are evaluated to determine whether they have Yin or Yang characteristics. For example, fever, thirst, heat, rapid pulse would be considered Yang signs, indicating a hot and hyperfunctioning condition, while fatigue, pale skin, poor circulation, weak pulse, would be considered Yin signs, suggesting a hypofunctioning condition (important to note that there is also false yang and false yin)

In TCM, the balance between Yin and Yang is crucial for maintaining health, and disease is seen as an imbalance or disharmony between these two forces. TCM treatments aim to restore Yin or Yang balance, depending on the individual's specific condition and pattern of disharmony.

It is important to note that this explanation of disease characteristics is based on TCM theory and may not be in line with concepts used in Western medicine.

23/08/2023

According to TCM teeth grinding (bruxism) can be attributed to various patterns of disharmony in the body. One possible pattern of disharmony causing teeth grinding is Liver Qi invading the Spleen, Stomach or Heart systems.

The excess heat generated by the liver's energy can ascend to the muscles responsible for chewing, resulting in teeth grinding. Alternatively, excessive heat can ascend and affect the mouth by invading the spleen and stomach systems.

Two acupuncture points, S6 and S7, are commonly used regardless of the underlying cause of bruxism.

Stomach 6, also known as Jiache, sits just below the cheekbone and in front of the TMJ. It's a go-to point for addressing TMJ pain, facial tension, and even headaches. Stimulating ST6 helps ease jaw tension, promote relaxation in the facial muscles, and can alleviate pain that's been giving you grief.

Adjacent to ST6 is Stomach 7, or Xia Guan. This point is strategically located in a depression between the jawbone and the earlobe, making it an excellent companion for ST6. Xia Guan is particularly effective for relieving pain and discomfort along the jawline and TMJ. It's also a fantastic tool for treating toothaches and addressing pain related to dental procedures.

However, it is crucial to note that each person is unique, and TCM emphasises the importance of conducting a thorough assessment and differentiation of the individual's condition. This means that the treatment approach may vary for each patient based on their specific presentation and underlying imbalances.

Renata Nunes
