The revised EYFS framework sets higher expectations for preschools and nurseries — designed to improve outcomes for children and reduce unnecessary admin for staff.

Safeguarding & Welfare
Every setting must have a trained DSL, a clear whistleblowing policy, and robust follow-up on absences. Policies on health, allergies and choking must be up to date, with thorough suitability checks for all staff.

Learning & Development
Curriculums should reflect the 7 areas of learning and embed effective teaching practices. Progress checks at age 2 remain vital, with clear written summaries. Children with EAL must have fair and supportive assessment.

Health & Safety
At least one Paediatric First Aid-trained staff member must be present at all times. Settings must minimise choking risks, manage medication safely, and follow NHS guidance on safe sleep for under 2s.

Records & Administration
Parent and child records must be accurate and current, including SEND and dietary needs. Complaints require a 28-day response. Ofsted or the CMA must be notified of any significant changes within 14 days, and registers must be kept daily.

Staff Qualifications & Ratios
At least half of staff should hold a Level 2 qualification or higher. Under 2s require care from appropriately trained staff. Managers appointed after January 2024 must hold or gain Level 2 maths. Ratios must be correct for each age group.

Supervision & Support
Regular one-to-one supervision is required to discuss safeguarding, practice, and wellbeing. Training logs should be up to date, covering induction, safeguarding, food hygiene, PFA and refresher courses.

The framework isn’t just about compliance. It’s about building confident teams, safe environments, and stronger outcomes for children.
As part of our commitment to supporting nurseries, we have a free, bitesize, up to date Safeguarding Children course that includes all the recent changes (including Annex C) that all staff must be aware of. Please view the course here: https://www.hellomums.co.uk/courses/10

I’m really looking forward to being part of the London Early Years Owners and Leaders Conference next week. As someone who has worked in this sector for over a decade, I know how valuable it is to step away from the day-to-day and spend time learning, connecting, and sharing ideas with others who care deeply about Early Years.

If you haven't got your FREE Ticket, I added the link below!

The agenda is packed with brilliant speakers covering everything from career pathways and EYFS updates to AI in small settings and benchmarking for success. The panel on future-proofing the workforce is one I’m especially keen to hear, given the challenges we’re all facing around recruitment and retention.

I’ll also be bringing along some copies of my book “We Had the Call – Ofsted is Coming! A Handy Guide for Nursery Managers.” Writing it was my way of giving something practical back to managers, and I’d love to put it directly into the hands of people who will benefit.

📅 2nd October 2025
📍 London, Mary Ward Centre

🎟 Tickets are free, but spaces are limited

👉 If you’re going to be there, let me know as I’d love to connect in person!

Our Safeguarding for Children CPD course has been updated to reflect the new EYFS framework.

This and all of our other courses within the Hello Mum’s Academy is available for anyone who is registered with us (registration is free).
The course is ideal for child carers working in settings, and we would recommend completing it every 12 months.
It is also available for nursery managers to share with the staff in their setting.

All of our courses provide a CPD certificate once a multiple-choice question has been completed.

Our Story

The bit about our past and present

Hello Mums was founded in 2014 as a babysitter service, by two childcare professionals and an IT guru. We have spent years chatting about how we would like to change childcare, to make children happy when the parents are not around. We believe that the right childcarer can make a huge difference in a child's life and help them become a happy, independent individual. That is why we wanted to create a team where we knew each carer, to make sure we can provide a personal service to our clients and childcarers alike and that is why Hello Mums started as a babysitter service for parents. Over the past few years, we have expanded into the public sector to offer nursery staff and help for créches and private members clubs in London. It happened by accident when a nursery in SW18 approached us. To date, we have provided them with temp staff on thousands of occasions and our pool of nurseries have grown into the dozens. We are big enough as we have interviewed thousands of nursery staff and babysitters, but we are small enough to make sure we can provide you with a personal service. We know that there is nothing better than a qualified, experienced childcarer who gets stuck in as soon as she/he arrives and this is what we always aim to provide you with. And we know that each childcarer deserves to be respected and treated right as they are helping us to love, educate and care for the next generation. So whether you are looking for the perfect childcare position or in need of temporary members of staff for your Early Years Nursery setting we are here to help on your journey.

The bit about the people behind Hello Mums

Kate, Jeremy and Edina have known each other since 2009. Kate looks after our clients and all things related to marketing. Kate has worked with children for 15 years before becoming a mum in March 2016. She enjoys being part of the community and she is here to make sure you are happy with the service we provide! Edina is in charge of all of our childcarers. Not only has she worked with children for nearly 20 years, she also knows what nurseries and parents look for in a trustworthy childcare professional which makes her the perfect person to interview all our nursery nurses and babysitters face to face. Edina loves animals and her cute dog keeps us on our toes! Jeremy has worked in IT for longer than he would like to admit, so it was very obvious that he would become the IT guru at the Hello Mums Headquarters. Jeremy is responsible for the look and feel of the website and our mobile phone apps. When he is not working, Jeremy keeps himself busy looking after his own little one.
