Our Art Club tried an amazing technique today, where we used photo paper and printed with sunlight. We carefully placed different objects on the paper and put it in the sun for 20 minutes whilst we did an exciting quiz. We then removed the objects and rinsed the paper with water, which revealed beautiful sun prints.

The people living with us were amazed at the results, and we will have a display of our artworks from the last few months on the 24th of September for the National Day of Arts in Care Homes. We are looking to plan a proper Gallery Opening Day. Come and have a look! 😊

We have had a wonderful day celebrating the Caribbean Carnival with the people living with us!

The morning started by making colourful carnival masks and decorating walkers and wheelchairs with streamers and fans. Our wonderful chef, Laura, served up a Caribbean lunch with jerk chicken, rice and peas, and patties. Everyone really enjoyed that.

In the afternoon we had a short introduction to Caribbean carnival traditions in London by watching a video, and also Mary, who is one of our relatives, did a short introduction into Caribbean traditions. We had a visit from a local community dance group and they performed a dance routine for everybody to get involved. All the people living with us waved the flags, and danced and sang along. We then shared a lovely fruit platter, and the afternoon finished with relatives performing some famous Caribbean songs for us. Everyone was singing along, it was a wonderful afternoon full of memories, joy, love, lovely food, and reminiscence.

Today we celebrated Summer by making a Summer Flower picture using the collage technique. The results were beautiful and the people living with us very happy about the results. The art club has been so popular we are thinking of having a little art gallery along the corridor to share the results with everyone and inspire others to join.

Today we explored everyday science with the people living with us.

We made lava lamps, baking soda and vinegar volcanos and checked the PH of lemon and soda with the help of red cabbage leaves. We also experimented with dancing raisins and checked how we can make an egg float in water by adding salt.

We discussed the science behind every experiment and some of the people living with us explained it well. It was an amazing morning full of surprises, laughter, More...Thinking....and we even learned something 😊
