Redness is rarely a simple diagnosis.

In clinical dermatology, precision is everything. Treating the symptoms of one Rosacea subtype with the protocol of another subtype can lead to further irritation. At De Felipe London, we move beyond general treatments towards a targeted strategy based on your skin’s unique biology.

The Four Primary Subtypes:

- Subtype 1: ETR – Persistent flushing and visible broken capillaries.
- Subtype 2: PPR – Inflammatory bumps and pustules, often mistaken for acne.
- Subtype 3: Phymatous – Skin thickening and irregular, bumpy texture.
- Subtype 4: Ocular – Gritty, dry, or bloodshot eyes.

Identifying your specific profile—or combination of types—is the only way to achieve long-term, resilient skin.

✨ Your journey to calm skin begins with a diagnosis. If you are struggling with persistent redness or sensitivity, we invite you to book a comprehensive consultation with Dr. De Felipe at our London clinic.

🌿Did you know that rosacea can sometimes look like acne?
This is one of the reasons why many adults feel their “acne” doesn’t improve as expected.

In some cases, the skin may be showing a combination of acne and rosacea features — where breakouts appear alongside redness, sensitivity and flushing.

🔬 Unlike acne, rosacea-prone skin has a more reactive vascular and inflammatory response, which means it can become irritated more easily and respond poorly to aggressive treatments.
That’s why treating it as acne alone can sometimes worsen the condition.

✨ The key is to understand what’s happening beneath the surface and choose a balanced, personalised approach that targets both breakouts and skin sensitivity.

🌿 Did you know that it’s not about how much sebum you produce, but rather the quality of the sebum and how your skin reacts to it?
More reactive skin tends to become inflamed more easily, making breakouts more visible and persistent.
In this case, we work with a personalised protocol to:
👉🏻 Improve skin quality
👉🏻 Reduce inflammation
👉🏻 Balance the skin to prevent new breakouts

✨Do you want to restore and soothe your skin? Ask about our treatment.

🌿Did you know insulin may play a role in acne?
In some cases of hormonal acne, the issue doesn’t start in the skin, but in how the body regulates processes such as insulin response.

When this system doesn’t function optimally:
• certain hormonal signals increase
• sebum production rises
• the skin becomes more prone to persistent breakouts

🔬 Myo-inositol is a naturally occurring molecule involved in insulin signalling and hormonal balance. It has been studied particularly in patients with polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) and acne associated with it.
It’s important to understand that:
👉 It does not act directly on the skin
👉 It is not a substitute for dermatological treatment
However, in selected patients, it may be considered as part of a more comprehensive, medical approach.

🌿Why is acne more persistent after the age of 25?
Unlike teenage acne, in adult acne the skin is usually more inflamed and reactive, and the sebaceous glands respond differently to hormonal stimuli.

Treating only the surface of the skin is often insufficient. In many cases, it is important to target several mechanisms at once:
👉🏻 Microdermabrasion → helps to renew the skin and unclog pores
👉🏻 1340nm laser → acts on the sebaceous glands and improves skin texture
👉🏻 Photobiological therapy → reduces inflammation and controls bacterial proliferation

🌿Why does acne appear after the age of 30 if you’ve never had it before?
Adult skin does not necessarily produce more oil than younger skin, but it can become more sensitive to hormonal influences, particularly androgens.
These cause the sebaceous glands to become more reactive, making breakouts more likely.

Adult acne does not have a single cause. It is usually the result of a combination of several factors:
👉🏻 Hormonal changes
👉🏻 Stress and increased cortisol
👉🏻 Changes in the skin barrier
👉🏻 Poor diet
👉🏻 Use of unsuitable cosmetics

🌿Do you know why they say that skin has memory?
⚡️Damage caused by UV radiation accumulates in the skin over time, and when melanocytes (the cells that produce melanin) become more reactive, they begin to produce pigment irregularly.
The result: visible spots on the face 🫟

In this patient’s case, we treated the spots with a personalised medical protocol based on combined sessions of microdermabrasion, IPL, and photobiological therapy to improve tone uniformity and restore luminosity to the skin✨

🌿Did you know that a spot on your skin does not always mean you have more pigment cells?
In many cases, something else happens: the melanocytes you already have become more active and start producing more melanin in certain areas.

This usually occurs due to a combination of several factors:
👉🏻 Accumulated sun exposure
👉🏻 Skin inflammation
👉🏻 Hormonal changes
👉🏻 Skin ageing

Over time, these signals cause melanocytes to respond more intensely to light, producing pigment irregularly. This is how sunspots, melasma, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation appear.
That’s why treating spots isn’t just about ‘erasing’ them.

To achieve lasting results, it is also important to address melanin production, inflammation and cumulative sun damage.

🌿Did you know that pigment lasers, such as picosecond lasers, can break down melanin particles up to 1,000 times faster than traditional lasers?
In this patient’s case, we used a picosecond laser to improve sunspots on the hands, also known as solar lentigines ☀️

These spots appear due to cumulative exposure to UV rays and are one of the most common signs of photoaging.⚡️

Picosecond technology works by emitting ultra-short pulses of energy that fragment the pigment and allow the body to gradually eliminate them through its natural processes 🔁

🌿Did you know that up to 80% of visible skin ageing is due to cumulative sun exposure?

Unlike our faces, we rarely apply sunscreen to our hands on a regular basis.

☀️Daily activities such as driving or going for a walk significantly increase UV exposure, which stimulates melanocytes and causes sunspots to appear on the hands.

Over time, sun damage not only causes pigmentation, but also reduces collagen, making veins and tendons more visible and the skin appear thinner.

Treatments such as IPL or lasers for pigmentation can significantly improve both spots and skin quality, especially when combined with adequate sun protection 🧴✔️

🌿Is your skin oilier when you’re tired? 🌙✨

Lack of rest is a key trigger for excess sebum production. When you don’t get enough sleep, cortisol (the stress hormone) rises, signalling your sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
The result? Congested pores, increased inflammation and a dull, lacklustre complexion.

To rebalance the skin and restore clarity, we use the 1340 Laser.

How does the 1340 Laser work?

• Sebum control: Targets the sebaceous gland directly, regulating its activity and reducing excess oil from within.
• Anti-inflammatory action: An ideal acne treatment to calm active lesions and effectively reduce redness.
• Immediate radiance: Lifts the dullness caused by fatigue, refines skin texture and restores a healthy, luminous glow.

Do not allow a demanding London lifestyle to compromise your skin health. At our Mayfair clinic, we offer bespoke dermatological procedures tailored to help you regain complete control of your skin and maintain a clear, radiant complexion.
