Running a small business is really hard.
The stress, the heartache, the worries — they can all feel like a lot at times.
But what makes it all worthwhile are the people.
If you know me, you’ll know I’m not usually one to share my feelings so openly… but over the past few months, both as a practice and personally, we’ve lost some of our biggest supporters — and I just wanted to say thank you.
There are two patients — AB and AW — who I’ll be forever grateful to for believing in me when I first took over Coton & Hamblin back in 2008.
Their support never wavered. Their visits always felt like catching up with old friends — chatting about family, holidays, books… you name it.
Losing them both was such a shock, and there were definitely tears from me and from the team who had known them even longer.
Then, on a personal level, I recently lost my Aunty Tina — our Facebook top supporter.
She never missed a post. Always liking, always commenting, always positive.
Even though I didn’t see her often (she was back home in Wales), every time we did meet she was smiling, laughing, and asking about my family — despite going through so much herself with kidney dialysis three times a week.
It’s been five weeks since she passed, and I still find it hard to write a post without crying — because that little notification from her won’t pop up anymore.
But people like Aunty Tina, AB, and AW are what make it all worthwhile.
So this is a heartfelt thank you —to them, to all of our wonderful patients and supporters, and to my fabulous Coton & Hamblin team, who truly are a lottery win in staff terms.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned through all of this…
it’s that we could all do with being a little more like Aunty Tina, AB, and AW — loyal, kind, and full of encouragement and ready with a smile.
