Why do leaves change colours?
It’s one of those little miracles we walk past without thinking.
As days get shorter and temperatures drop, trees begin to pull their energy inward.
Chlorophyll fades, and suddenly the hidden colours the golds, reds, and ambers come to the surface.
Nature isn’t dying… it’s simply shifting, resting, preparing.
Every autumn reminds me of the same thing:
when life gets cooler, slower, or heavier, we don’t need to push.
We can turn inward, soften, and feed ourselves with the things that bring comfort.
And for me, comfort starts in the kitchen.
Here’s a simple, cosy dish you can make tonight no fuss, just warmth in a bowl:
Autumn Comfort Bowl
Ingredients:
• 1 sweet potato, cubed
• 1 small onion, sliced
• 1 handful spinach
• 1 tin chickpeas (rinsed)
• 1 tsp turmeric
• 1 tsp smoked paprika
• Salt & pepper
• A splash of olive oil
• Optional: a spoon of coconut yoghurt on top
How to make it:
Roast the sweet potato and onion with spices and olive oil (200°C, 20–25 minutes).
Warm the chickpeas in a pan, add the roasted vegetables, fold in the spinach at the end, and finish with coconut yoghurt.
Simple, grounding, and full of colour just like the season.
