Following the hugely successful two day seminar held last spring in London, we are delighted to announce that Hilary is returning to present another weekend seminar in June.

To book your place please email: hello@feat.uk.com

Hilary Skellon has been in private practice since 1982, and has been teaching Classical Five Element Acupuncture since 1983. From 1990 - 1994 she was Vice-Principal of the College of Traditional Acupuncture in England. She was also on the faculty of WICA in Florida, SOFEA and LIFEA in London. In 1998, Hilary moved to the United States to become director of ITEA and in 2019 became President of the Institute. As of January 2023, Hilary became Academic and Faculty Dean at ITEA and stepped down from the Presidency. Her greatest wish is for more people to be teaching and practicing this medicine in its pure form.

This seminar is open to Five Element Acupuncture practitioners who want to clarify and deepen their knowledge of Five Element Acupuncture theory and practice.

There will be several patients to class over the two days. Visiting our core subjects through the live practice of seeing patients helps to deepen our understanding in a very tangible way, so this weekend will be based around learning from our patients.

Those attending the seminar will be given the opportunity to request any specific topics they would like to have covered during the two days.

Date: 10th and 11th June 9.30am to 5.30pm

Location: St Peter’s House, 59 Elgin Avenue, London W9 2DB

Cost: £325, Early bird (before March 10th) £250

Our London student clinic is open again. £35 per treatment. All treatment supervised by Gabriella and Michael (19 years experience). First come, first served.

“I haven't felt so good for yonks!” - Charles, London W9

“Acupuncture is Magic” said Martina after receiving treatment from one of our student practitioners.

You need to be able to commit to weekly treatment for at least 6 weeks. Sessions take place Friday daytime in Imperial Wharf, London SW6.

Acupuncture can help for a wide range of symptoms. With Five Element Acupuncture many people also feel a greater sense of peace within themselves. With regular treatment many people feel more able to cope with the stresses of life, no matter what life throws at them.

"I was sceptical at first that you could really make any difference to my stress levels and general shocking health. I had tried 'mainstream' acupuncture a number of times before and found it to be fairly ineffective but in a desperate state I knew I had to try something different. After just a few sessions of Classical 5 Elements Acupuncture I can safely say that I haven't felt so good for yonks! I've visited a number of alternative health practitioners in the last few years but none have impressed me as much as you. You were firm but gentle, compassionate and selfless. A credit to your profession and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone."

Five Element Acupuncture Training
Next undergraduate intake: January 2022
One place left

Claire came to me for acupuncture with a lot of anxiety and confusion. There was conflict in her relationship, she was feeling lost in her career and unsure about how to make a change. She knew she needed peace from the constant self critical voice in her head, but she didn’t know how to get there. She’d heard about Five Element Acupuncture from a friend and wanted to see if it could help her.

Fast forward two months - Claire came in for treatment a couple of days ago. She told me about two challenging situations that normally would have rattled her. This time she remained unbothered and calm. She’s taking things less personally and as a result her relationship is peaceful and supportive again. She’s also taking things at a slower pace and putting less pressure on herself to have everything figured out immediately. She has faith that she will find her career path when the time is right.

In our practice and those of our graduates this kind of story is quite common. But it still fills me with awe at this medicine. What a privilege to see such profound shifts in people’s lives on a daily basis.

Our training to become a Five Element Acupuncturist isn’t for everyone though. Here’s what you need:

1) A real desire to help people who are suffering, and commitment to do whatever it takes. Without this, none of the theory or practice matters.

2) Humility - You’re starting from scratch with a whole new way of learning. This can be challenging for the ego and may involve "getting things wrong". We don't ask for perfection but we ask that you learn from the challenges and are willing to take on board feedback.

3) A commitment to self reflection and owning your own feelings. Patients will trigger your emotions so it's vital that you examine yourself and own your reactions.

Yes, we expect a lot, and we also give a lot:

1) We take on a maximum of six students per year so we can give a lot of personal attention and feedback. We really get to know our students' individual strengths and challenges so we can help them excel. This ratio of two practitioners with 18 years experience to six students is unprecedented. It means we can ensure all our graduates are practicing at the highest level.

2) We keep working with our graduates to help them build their practice with ongoing mentoring and patient referrals.

3) We’re always on hand when a challenge comes up. If you need extra support or a listening ear we’ll always make time. As long as you’re committed to doing your part, we do whatever it takes to support you.

If the idea of a career where you get to help people thrive every day appeals you'll find more details at:

https://www.feat.uk.com/five-element-acupuncture-training

We can schedule a pre-application chat and find out if applying is right for you. But don’t wait too long. There’s only one place left.

To a supportive community of healers,

Michael Arnold
(Co-founder of FEAT)

P.S. "Whatever it takes" doesn't mean killing yourself with hard work. It means commitment to finding a way. This can include admitting that you need help and asking for it.

Have you ever had a goal that you kept pushing at? No matter how many doors you pushed on, no opportunities would open up. Then all of a sudden a door swings wide open that had been locked shut and you breeze right in?

I was a petulant and impatient young man. Magda asked me the other day:

“Your mum and dad get so easily frustrated. How did you get to be so calm?”

“It’s all the acupuncture!” I answered. “I wasn’t always like this!”

Just ask Gabriella. The first time we met was at acupuncture school in 2001. Gabriella approached me to ask if I would take part in her research dissertation.

She asked me a simple question and I gave the most flippant and bratty answer. I actually projected all my own impatience and petulance onto her without even realising it.

“What a knob!” Thought Gabriella. She recounted this to me years later.

I’ve spent so much of my life trying to make things happen when I think they should happen. But all the best things in my life have come to me synchronistically when I stopped pushing. Finding my career path, my business partner and my life partner. All these things suddenly found me when I stopped pushing and trusted in the bigger plan.

Right now our world is in flux. We’re never going to return to the pre-Covid world. A lot of doors are closing forever and a some new ones that have been nailed shut for years are starting to open.

The right path for you in this new world won’t come purely by analysis. The ones who can listen to the quiet whispering of their gut instinct will be the ones who thrive.

We’re holding an open evening for our acupuncture training on Friday 29th October.

Time: 6.00pm - 9.00pm
Location: Imperial Wharf, London

Our next undergraduate intake starts in January 2022. We have two places still available on this intake.

During the open evening we’ll talk about the course structure and what makes our training unique. You'll also get the chance to ask questions and talk to current and past students.

Seminar recordings now available
50% off (£50) until 3rd October

Why do we have a winter?

And why do we find winter so challenging?

Do challenges have a purpose in our life?

The whole notion of challenges that make us stronger starts to make sense when we understand the Five Elements.

Water is the element associated with winter. The gift of the energy of Water is in it’s ability to go to the depths and the source of all power.

Many seeds need to experience a cold spell in order to germinate. We also need to go through a period of challenge in order to push us into the depths. This is where we come into contact with the deeper aspects of who we are and that seed that gives us the determination. If you look at waves relentlessly crashing on a beach, that’s the power of water. Incessant power that just doesn’t stop. We have that within ourselves too if we can get in touch with it. But usually we need to be pushed into it by the challenges of life.

Our Introduction to Five Element Acupuncture is now available as an 8 part video series. You can watch the recordings at your leisure. The live seminars series was £100 but until 3rd October the recordings are available with a 50% discount.

Five Element Acupuncture is an ancient, yet vibrantly alive healing tradition

Thousands of years ago the ancient Daoists saw clearly that:

The energies of nature also exist in us

The Daoists observed that:

- All life moves in cycles.

- Every cycle has five distinct phases.

- Each phase has a particular energetic movement.

Whether it’s the life cycle of a project, the seasons of the year, or your entire life, each cycle has to go through the same five phases. These are the Five Elements.

"Race and racism is a reality that so many of us grow up learning to just deal with. But if we ever hope to move past it, it can’t just be on people of colour to deal with it. It’s up to all of us – Black, white, everyone – no matter how well-meaning we think we might be, to do the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out. It starts with self-examination and listening to those whose lives are different from our own. It ends with justice, compassion, and empathy that manifests in our lives and on our streets."

– Michelle Obama in a statement following the harrowing death of George Floyd

I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well in these challenging times.

One of the oldest and most powerful spiritual practices involves using struggle and suffering to drive us deeper into presence.

I made a short video about this here:

In these times for uncertainty, we're being forced to surrender to whatever feelings come up.

Uncertain times, community, and going deeper

How are you coping with these crazy, unprecedented times?

If I'm honest I'd say I'm still in shock. Initially I found myself rushing around trying to come up with contingency plans. While this is useful, it was also a way of not allowing myself to feel the emotions underneath.

I made a short video about my experience of the crisis and how we can find certainty by going within.

You can watch it here:

https://www.feat.uk.com/blog/2020/3/26/uncertain-times-community-and-going-deeper

I'm going to be sharing more over the coming days and weeks about how to access the certainty within, connect with your community, and strengthen your immune system.

I'd love to hear about the specific challenges you're facing, how you're feeling and what you'd like help with. You can leave a comment below or email me at
michael@feat.uk.com.

Warmest wishes,

Michael

Acupuncture for Sleeping Problems

I used to suffer from insomnia terribly. I woke up every night without fail after 4 hours and just could not get back to sleep. When I finally did it was light sleep and the softest sound would wake me. My energy was terrible during the day and I had little motivation to do anything. This went on for over a year.

I tried everything to sort it, doctors had little they could offer, tried all the advice online for sleep hygiene. Sleeping tablets made me drowsy but didn't sort the problem. I tried ayurvedic medicine which did help but eventually the herbs stopped working. Then chinese herbs and TCM acupuncture which had no effect.

One day I got recommended to a five element acupuncturist and from the first session I knew it was something different. He measured all the places where the acupuncture points were and was very observant. On the third session he cleared what I understand now to be a meridian block. That night I slept for 8 hours. The week that followed I just remembered feeling so relaxed and at peace and my sleep returned to normal. Since then I continued to see five element acupuncturists every time my sleep started playing up again and every time it has sorted the problem.

It took me around a year to decide to train as a five element acupuncturist and it has been one of the best decisions I've made. I treat people now who have similar problems as me and am happy to have so much success.

Sleep can be an issue for many people. Send FEAT a message to find out more, we're happy to do a free consultation and if it feels like the right thing we can book in the first session. No pressure.

Visit https://www.feat.uk.com/acupuncture-for-insomnia for more info, or call 020 7118 0920 email: hello@feat.uk.com to book a free consultation.

Thoughts rushing through your head. The pressure of having to get through the next day whilst tired and not at the best of your ability. Worry and anxiety sets in as the clock ticks ever closer to towards wake up time. You are still wide awake.
