I know the central governor well, not just from the science, but from living on the wrong side of its warnings for far too long.
For years I pushed through midlife carrying the perfect storm many women face:
➡️ Hormones shifting
➡️ Young children moving into puberty
➡️ A career that never stopped demanding more
➡️ The invisible emotional labour of holding everyone else up
And like so many women I now support at Wellgevity, I kept going without adequate support, without a “place to fall,” and without giving my brain the signals of safety it needed.
Eventually, the governor did what it’s designed to do:
It slammed the brakes.
Not because I was weak.
Not because I’d “lost drive.”
But because my brain was trying to protect me from the load I refused to acknowledge.
Midlife is an inflection point where biology and life collide. Hormone shifts change how we allocate energy. Parenting teens requires a new bandwidth. Work often peaks just as sleep, recovery and resilience begin to fluctuate.
So many high-performing women suddenly “hit the wall.”
This is not a personal failing - it’s physiology.
A neuroprotective strategy.
If you’re feeling the friction, the slowing, the fatigue… please hear this:
“Slow down before you crash.
Listen before your body forces you to.
Redirect before you have to rebuild from zero.”
Recovery is absolutely possible - but it’s far easier to course - correct than to reverse-engineer after collapse.
Your brain isn’t betraying you.
It’s protecting you with the information it has.
At Wellgevity we help women retrain the governor, rebuild resilience and expand capacity safely - with more energy, not less.
If this resonates, comment “GOVERNOR” below.
You’re not broken - you’re carrying too much on a system designed to protect you.
