Is your young person ready to take on the next stage in learning their initial sounds?

This Teaching Tips episode builds on our previous literacy activity
perfect for when your young person is ready to step up their learning on initial sounds.

The lesson involves exploring a tray of familiar objects and sort them into groups based on the first sound of each word.

We’re keeping it hands-on and playful as always:
✨ Explore a tray of familiar objects
✨ Say the word together
✨ Sort by the first sound

Let them lead by choosing their favourite items
it keeps engagement high and learning natural.

You can easily stretch the activity too…

Count each group, go on a sound hunt around the house, or add capital letters for extra exposure.

Simple to set up.
Easy to adapt.
And a lovely way to keep early literacy moving forward through play.

Valentine’s Day is usually about showing love to your partner.
But this year, we wanted to show a little love to our people. ❤️

So we decorated every SuperCare office, set up treat stations, and gave everyone an excuse to pause… sit down… and just enjoy being together.

No big speeches.
No big agenda.
Just sweet treats, a few laughs, and time as a team.

Watching everyone chat, snack, and properly switch off for a moment was genuinely lovely to see.

It reminded us how important it is to celebrate the adults who make SuperCare what it is

Not just for what they do
but for who they are.

We don’t always stop to say it, but we’re incredibly grateful for this team.

To our SuperCare family, thank you. We hope you felt the love.
And we hope everyone had a very happy Valentine’s Day. 💕

You don’t need a classroom to support your child’s learning 💚

This is a simple activity you can do at home, and it works for children with learning disabilities at every level.

In this episode of Teaching Tips with SuperCare, our SEN teacher Chrissy Brown shares an easy, sensory-based activity that supports initial sounds and mark making using everyday items.

Some children will explore through sensory play. Others might recognise letters, trace sounds, or write early words. The same setup, different entry points, no pressure.

Learning that adapts to your child, not the other way around.

Christmas is such a special time in the homes
and we’re incredibly grateful to our team who help make that possible

3am alarms. 5.45am start...
Early rises don't stop us from doing our part for the community

This morning some of our amazing team volunteered at Whitechapel Mission

Helping run their breakfast service for people experiencing homelessness in London.

Whitechapel Mission provides breakfast, hot drinks and access to showers for up to 300 people every single day.

For many, this will be the only hot meal they receive...

We are so incredibly proud of those who joined today
It's an honour and a privilege to be able to give back to our community

A huge thank you to the team for giving up their time.

Doing something that feels so small to some like providing 1 warm meal, can mean a lot to others!

Christmas has officially landed in our London homes!

The young people and the adults have gone all-in on the festive magic this year

From getting the tree up ready to be full of presents
To turning the whole house into a cosy winter wonderland.

We’ve got decorations everywhere
twinkling lights
and even blow-up Santas holding the fort until the real one arrives on the big day.

It’s such a fun time of year in our homes,
with everyone getting involved in making things feel magical.

Huge well done to the teams for creating such warm, welcoming environments for the young people we support 💚

If we want to provide the best care, we have to invest in the people who lead it

Earlier this week, our London leadership team took part in the latest company-wide Supervision Project Training
A three-part programme designed to strengthen leadership across SuperCare.

We are exploring supervision as a whole,
how to carry it out with purpose,
and how to bring the best out of people through meaningful, supportive conversations.

It’s a major investment in upskilling our managers and leadership teams
Ensuring they feel confident, equipped and empowered.

In this week’s workshop, everyone was split into groups and asked to break down aspects of supervision before presenting back to the room
sparking thoughtful discussion, fresh perspectives and shared learning.

At SuperCare, we pride ourselves on developing our adults at every level.

Training isn’t just for our coaches or new starters
Constant growth for everyone (including leadership teams) is how we ensure we’re providing the very best care possible.

Started by Become, it is a chance to highlight and celebrate people who grew up in care.

As the month comes to an end, we are proud to spotlight one of our remarkable Team Leaders and Team Teach Trainers: Tyreek Marke

What a story he has!

Growing up in care himself,
Tyreek is a true success story.

He saw first-hand the parts of the system that weren’t working many years ago

And instead of letting that hold him back...
he turned it into purpose.

He made it his mission to provide the very best care for young people, the kind he didn’t always receive himself.

Since joining SuperCare, Tyreek has been nothing short of outstanding.

He gives his all, every single day, and he does it with pride.
He is strong, determined, and has overcome so much in his life
And now stands tall, openly sharing his journey.

This year’s theme for Care Leavers Month, “Rising as Me: Overcoming challenges, transforming, and finding your identity,” couldn’t be more fitting.

Tyreek embodies it fully.

We are incredibly lucky and deeply proud to have him as part of the SuperCare family.

His story has touched every person here
and we know it will touch many more.
