Lukehannanutrition Evidence based personal trainer and nutritionist.

I created this page with the purpose of using it as a platform for me to share information about lifestyle, nutrition, exercise, and health in general! It is also a way for people to ask questions that they may have, and for me to answer to the best of my abilities. If you do have a genuine question but don't want to post on the page, PM me and I will share and answer it anonymously. The level of information provided will vary, varying from advice for beginners, to topics that may interest those of you who are slightly more advanced! Like and share if you like what you see or you're just feeling kind and what to help me out :)

Cheers,

Luke

Struggle to find the motivation to train sometimes? Me too. This is the mindset shift I make that helps me be consistent with my training even when I CBA.

Consistency over perfection 🫡

I’m tired of seeing these strawman arguments making it out like we have an issue with “whole foods” 😴

To be clear: aside from the lack of a solid scientific basis for some recommendations; the confusing, conflicting, and often vague advice (for example, removing limits on alcohol… one of the most harmful substances in modern society); political pandering; and misleading rhetoric such as “the war on protein” or intentionally inflammatory language like “industrial oils” - much of the guidelines are actually fine and not that different to the previous ones. No one is arguing against the idea that people should improve the overall quality of their diets and focussing on “whole foods”.

However, I wanted to highlight the hypocrisy and the significant amount of confirmation bias displayed by many of these creators (especially the “primal” and carnivore crowds), particularly given how often they claim that research and guidelines cannot be trusted because of industry funding and influence.

I don’t personally believe that funding alone automatically invalidates research or recommendations. That said, when conclusions clearly contradict decades of existing data, it becomes difficult to deny that funding and conflicts of interest have influenced the outcomes.

Exercise does not reliably “boost appetite” in a way that cancels out its energy cost. A single session often suppresses appetite; regular exercise may make you a bit hungrier when fasted but also more satisfied after meals, leading to better appetite regulation rather than simple overeating.

While there seems to be a lot of inter-individual variability when it comes to the impact it has on hunger, clearly exercise does not cause people to gain weight given we have hundreds of studies showing it has either neutral or modest benefits for weight loss.

Exercise is also one of the biggest and best levers you can pull when it comes to improving your health and reducing overall mortality risk, so making content that’ll only scare people away from it is absolutely ridiculous.

Totally agree with 🫡

Embarrassing mindset to have especially as the topic was not even related to “physiques” but rather food processing and health 🤦🏼‍♂️

If you want to go on any specific diet because it makes you feel good, that is your choice to make. You do you.

Some small sub-set of the population can benefit from forms of elimination diets, which is essentially what a carnivore diet is. However, this doesn’t mean people can lie, twist, and cherry pick data or concepts to push their agenda.

You don’t need to be drinking green juices but the data is clear; Vegetables, fruits, and whole-grains are healthful.

And apart from some very specific situations, you don’t need to worry about “anti-nutrients” 😏
