What a crazy story and an absolutely great lunchtime for a bit of training. I have known for around 30 years. I have also been training BJJ on and off for the last 20 years.

But never have we ever had a chance to train together on the mat. Well...........today was a first and what a pleasure it was!

If you work in and around Soho and Mayfair. I would definitely head down to train with Paxton and his coach Ali at Buddha Box in Mayfair.

He's a great coach and even better person.

Was also a pleasure to have met Harry too!

Thanks . It was a great class today abd I am looking forwards to rolling again on the mat soon!!!πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™β¬›β¬›β¬›β¬›πŸŸ₯⬛

As night time starts to fall and in the remaining hours before we go to bed, our bodies go through a hormonal and neurological process of winding down in preparation for sleep.

One of the key hormones involved within this winding down process is called Melatonin.

Our understanding for how melatonin influences our bodies continues to grow, but we know it is vital for helping us to be able to fall asleep and maintain good quality sleep.

Over exposure of light, particularly blue light (which is the frequency of light akin to daylight), can inhibit the release of melatonin in our bodies, and thereby affect both the quality of our sleep and our ability to fall asleep.

Wearing blue light filter glasses or amber glasses in the few hours before you go to bed, can help to give your body a better chance of winding down and assist you with getting some good rest when you sleep.

Our team are specialists in providing sleep advice to help optimise your health and performance goals. DM us or leave a comment to find out our recommendations for our top 3 brands of blue light filter glasses!

Not only is a whole food diet essential for the provision of all of the nutrients and building blocks to maintain a healthy body, but it also helps to sustain and fine tune the vital defense systems which keep us from getting sick.

Our immune systems have a lot of work to do on a daily basis and no more so than in our gut, where up to 70% of our immune cells are located.

Having a diet laden with high amounts of sugar and processed foods puts a heavy strain upon our immune systems in terms of raising inflammation in our bodies, thereby distracting our immune systems from being able to fight off the bugs which can make us ill.

Avoid eating too many processed foods and try to have at least 5 whole fruits and vegetables per day to make a positive start towards eating your way to a healthier you!

Our willpower is a muscle that can be trained like any other muscle in our body, and when focused upon a particular area of our lives, the benefits of this effort spreads to a host of other well being and lifestyle behaviours also!

Various studies have showed that when we develop our willpower over a specific task of self improvement such as exercising regularly or saving money, they found that this acted as a catalyst for improvement in other wellness behaviours like smoking less and eating healthily.

A formidable secret of success when you are trying to build any habit is to start small and simple, and then let that become a catalyst for other positive things to follow.

At Evolution Rehab, our first steps to helping any of our patients to improve their health, is through taking steps to address the 4 pillars of health.

It is amazing what a difference some simple changes to your diet and sleep habits could do to help clear up many of the aches, pains and problems with your body!

Through recent developments of our understanding within the field of epigenetics over the last 10-15 years, many sources of research have stated that what we do with regards to the basic pillars, can have up to a 90% influence about whether specific genes in our body are turned on or turned off. These activated genes can determine a wide range of possible health consequences later in life such as obesity, poor skin health, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disease and heart disease.

The great news about this information is that many aspects of your health and well-being are totally within your control.

The Functional Medicine Clinic at Evolution Rehab are extremely well qualified to help you with your journey to better health and well-being. Drop us an email (evorehab@gmail.com) or DM us if there is anything that we can help you with.

Whilst one of the main goals at Evolution Rehab is to help reduce the pain levels for our patients, we always emphasise to them that pain reduction is simply the starting platform from which their journey to full recovery can happen.

The over-riding message that we aim to provide our patients, is that in addition to pain relief, the restoration of effective function of their body is also a priority.

So what does effective restoration mean?

For us, it means that all of our patients are able to get back to using their bodies in as full and unrestricted capacity as possible. The patients that are keen on running are able to return to running on any surface that they desire. The patients that initially came in with back pain, are able to curl into a ball on the wrestling mat again.

The principle behind helping our patients would involve a journey of progressive physical and co-ordinative preparation, with the purpose helping them get into better shape than before they had injured themselves.

Research over the last 10 years has continuously shown that people whom are able to sustain Subjective Well-Being (a fancy way of saying a positive mindset), have:

Better Health
Greater self-regulation
Stronger motivation
Enhanced creativity
Positive relationships

(Tenney & Diener, 2016)

But like anything in life, maintaining a positive outlook can be comparable to exercising and working out. It takes consistent work, just like any muscle in your body!

There are a variety of ways in which we can do this, such as regularly spending social time with friends and family, taking time out to listen to some music or simply going for a walk in nature. But, there are also more esoteric ways, which include, writing in a gratitude journal or a bit of light meditation.

Whatever you decide to do, the key message is to regularly prioritise daily and weekly activities which keep you grounded, calm and happy.

It can do more for your health, relationships and your work productivity than you realise!
