Quick Easy Lunch

Gosh social media can make healthy living a complex guilt stricken task

By connecting tradition with science helps to know when something is a fad and something that is here to stay

Yes traditionally Ayurveda would frown on precooked chickpeas and rice

But they didn’t have frozen pizza and drive thrus back then too

The idea is to introduce as much variety as we can into our diet
Eat variety of grains, pulses and spices
A little everyday compared to once in a while is how we can make the needle move

I added some fresh ingredients but you don’t actually have to

How I made it

1. Warmed up some olive oil in a pan
2. Added some hing for flavour and to balance Vata
3. Added some fresh chopped tomatoes and aubergine
4. Flavoured with paprika, chana masala, white pepper, cumin powder, amchoor and a little salt
5. Added the chickpeas
6. Then the coriander
7. The rice
8. Lime juice
9. Washed the organic red chard and threw it in I chopped at the end
10. Served in a dish - sat in the garden
11. Now time to rest (but not sleep)

Are you confused about what to eat? Do you feel guilty about prepackaged ingredients?

Has anyone noticed that when they take away the processed foods, high sugar, high salt, they can listen to their bodies better?

As the weather changes my body isn’t asking for porridge or sweet foods but it’s craving simple, flavoursome savouries.

Some roast tofu would have completed this beautifully

Roasting veg is so underrated
Not only is it soo easy and effortless but the veg actually tastes delicious and you preserve the nutrients, use less fats and can flavour with potent spices.

What’s your body asking for at breakfast?

Having spent time discussing health with the community. Listening to their questions, hearing their concerns. Even assessing them over the years. I have seen the women who have maintained good health are usually women that have always eaten mainly home cooked foods and still do.

They don’t eat complicated meals or complicated ingredients

It’s usually just simple, homemade meals that are native to their heritage and culture. Foods their bodies are accustomed to.

They also include their fun foods and don’t live with restrictions

But I will also say that those of us that may have struggled with food or health. It often didn’t start with us.

It could have started in utero, it could have started with foods we ate as children, it could be down to our sensitive body types, the reasons are many.

Ayurveda breaks meals into qualities as well as what the ingredients are

To be able to digest and absorb heavy meals we need a strong jatharagni or digestive fire. 🔥

Some people find protein hard to digest

Kadhi is a light easy to digest dish made from buttermilk, gram flour and spices.

Here we have used a vegan yoghurt as a starter, soya yoghurt is also rich in protein.

Spices like curry leaves, cloves, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds and turmeric provide rich antioxidants and digestive spices. Whilst the peas in the rice add some more protein.

Take away the stress from meals and make simple easy to digest dishes
