Lemon Water

Having slept for many hours and waking up, the body is less hydrated. Coffee and Tea have a diuretic effect (urinate more) on the body. Therefore drinking water is better. Some people find water boring. Adding a chunk of unwaxed lemon is beneficial. Lemons are also good for the stomach and kidneys.

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is good for you!!

Chocolate is made from the cocoa tree seeds and they are high in antioxidant flavanol. Antioxidants protect calls from damange. Better to eat dark chocolate that has a minimum of 70% cocoa. (Lower percentage cocoa chocolate contains more sugar.)

Summer Hydration

With the great weather we are having, our gardens are suffering with the lack of rain but we also have to make sure our bodies do not dehydrate. 70% of our body is made up of water. If we drink large quantities of water in one go, it is like watering an indoor plant, the water will go straight through.

We require minerals/electrolytes for the water to be taken into our cells. Eat plenty of vegetables, salad and fruits to help take the water into our cells. Don’t forget coffee, tea and alcohol are diuretics that result in an increased frequency of urination, and therefore dehydration if consumed in large amounts.

Tea Tree Oil

This is something I always take with me on holiday. Tea tree oil is good for using externally (only) on the skin, scalp and nails. It helps clear certain bacteria, viruses and fungi. It also helps to clear those small red 'sweat' spots , blocked hair follicles and sweat rash after a few days of use. I also apply it on my arms and legs as an alternative to insect repellant and even if you get a bug bite, tea tree oil will help with the inflammation and itching.

Tea tree oil can be used to treat and disinfect minor cuts. A few years ago, I used tea tree oil effectively on my younger son's smelly feet!!!

Rotator Cuff Tendonitis

Commonly a repetitive strain injury to the tendons that join the top of the arm. Often painful when the arm is raised above 90 degrees. Good ways to help

1) Alternate ice and heat packs for 20 minutes at the front of the shoulder.
2) Massage the middle of the upper trapezius muscle.
3) Massage the neck as the nerves control the shoulder
4) Do exercises with the arm that involve pulling down.
5) Avoid lifting, sleeping on the painful shoulder or shrugging the shoulder.

Top Tips for Tennis Elbow

This is the overuse/repetitive injury in the muscles and tendons on the outside of the elbow.

Spend 2 minutes, twice a day massaging:-

1) The painful area on the outside of the elbow to encourage blood flow and healing in the area.
2) The equilvalent area on the inside of the elbow. There will be a painful knot there which needs to be broken down.
3) The back of the neck on the same side as the painful elbow. The nerve signals from the neck control the arm.
