This striking image of a coleus leaf (© MrX, CC BY-SA 3.0) was created using Kirlian photography—a technique that reveals the coronal discharge, or ‘aura’, surrounding living and non-living objects. Since its accidental discovery in 1939 by Semyon Kirlian, the technique has captivated scientists and artists, as well as those interested in subtle energies. At our Gathering you will have the rare opportunity to try it out for yourself with our Secretary Pete Wayne. Not only is Pete an Advanced Essence and Reiki practitioner, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Past Life Regression expert, he is a gifted photographer. Join Pete in stepping into the magic and exploring the unseen by booking at: https://www.bfvea.com/bfvea-annual-gathering-2026

In his photograph below, we see Edward Bach in 1907 at the end of his first year studying medicine at Birmingham University. Aged twenty-one, he is dressed in a formal, professional suit, though his neckwear, more akin to a cravat than a conventional tie, hints at a growing flair for fashion. This sartorial detail may well have been inspired by his physics tutor, John Henry Poynting (1852–1914), a distinguished scientist known for both his pioneering work but for securing his tie with a ring rather than a knot (just visible in the image below).
Bach clearly held Poynting in high esteem, embracing his distinctive style and thriving under his mentorship. By the end of the year, he had successfully passed his Experimental Physics examination and performed well in Biology — a subject Poynting may also have taught. In contrast, he felt less confident about Inorganic Chemistry and chose to postpone that exam until his second year. With additional study commitments ahead, Year 2 promised to be especially demanding. Dancing in a circle is an ancient tradition shared across cultures—a way to celebrate, unite, and honour the rhythms of community and life. At our 2026 Gathering, however, Jen Lerner will take this timeless practice a step further, weaving it into the transformative realm of essence therapy.

Inspired by the pioneering work of Anastasia Geng, Jen will guide participants through movement that awakens a deeper emotional, physical, and spiritual connection to the Bach flower remedies. Each dance is a physical expression of a flowers’ qualities—an invitation to feel its essences and literally move towards balance, harmony, and inner truth. Jen will join us for the whole weekend at https://www.bfvea.com/bfvea-annual-gathering-2026/ # “floweressences” # “vibrationalessences” #”edwardbach” # “bach flowers”

When Edward Bach was born, his parents were living in his paternal grandfather’s former home, ‘The Hollies’, in Moseley, Birmingham. When he was ten, the family moved just over the boundary into King’s Heath, to a house they named ‘Beverley’. Around 1906, they relocated again—this time to 51 Oxford Road, Moseley (pictured far right with a chevron design on the eaves). This property was purchased for them by Bach’s uncle Lawrence and, once more, his parents called the house ‘Beverley’. Later, when Edward built his own home in London, he chose the same name. So, what was it about this picturesque Yorkshire market town, famous for its magnificent Gothic church, Beverley Minster, that so captivated the Bach family that they named every home in its honour? What could be more heart-warming than a bouquet of seasonal meadow and garden flowers—intuitively gathered and lovingly arranged by someone who understands their spirit? After 20 years’ experience as an essence practitioner and producer, in 2015 Shelley Sishton was guided to grow British seasonal flowers as a living flower pharmacy, in order to bring flower essences to life for new audiences. Her work is rooted in a deep reverence for nature. As she beautifully expresses, “The wisdom, spirit and energy of flowers and nature is at the heart of everything I do.”

During our 2026 Gathering, Shelley will join us each day, to guide the weaving of a communal flower altar blanket, inviting us into a deeper relationship with the spirit of nature. Through this shared and sacred experience, she will awaken our innate connection to the healing presence of flowers and illuminate why this bond is vital for the well-being of ourselves, our communities, and our planet—now and for generations to come. Here is Edward Bach (circa 1920) – happy, relaxed and unmistakably himself –pictured with his second wife, Kitty, and daughter Bobbie. He is dressed in his favourite attire: classic cricket whites (probably a nod to his father’s cricket club), simple plimsoles (early precursors to trainers) and, true to form, hatless. He famously disliked wearing hats! Take note too of the loose fit. Bach often bought garments a size larger than needed, favouring comfort over formality. The setting is a property he personally commissioned for his family. Some of you may already know its name and address and the poignant reason he did not live there for long. If not, join us at the 2026 BFVEA Gathering to uncover this and many other little-know insights into the life of the remarkable Dr. Bach. https://www.bfvea.com/bfvea-annual-gathering-2026/ # “floweressences” # “vibrationalessences” # ”edwardbach” # “bach flowers”

Below is a copy of ‘British Wild Flowers’ by Sowerby & Johnson (1858) - the flora Bach consulted when selecting his first nineteen essence plants. He spent countless hours absorbed in its pages, observing the habits and characteristics of the species that spoke to him, often annotating the margins with notes for future reference. Later, at Sotwell, Bach’s process became so deeply intuitive he was able to experience various emotional states until he was guided to the plants that could offer help. At our 2026 Gathering, Ammerdown grounds and the Chalice Well gardens will provide rich opportunities to explore Bach’s and other essence making approaches, so do bring your equipment and prepare to deepen your connection with the plants that call to you. It’s exciting to see the bookings coming through for the 2026 BFVEA Annual Gathering, a truly special event to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Dr Edward Bach’s passing, whilst honouring his extraordinary legacy of increased plant consciousness in us all.
The Gathering will be on the 27th to 29th of March, 2026, at Ammerdown Retreat Centre in the English West Country.
The weekend will bring us together, not just as essence practitioners, but as sensitive, conscious beings ready to listen more deeply—to plants, to ourselves, to each other, and to the call of these times.
Every past Annual Gathering has held its own magic… but for this one, we are crafting it to be even more special, a truly one-of-a-kind experience, with elements you simply won’t find anywhere else - a portal, a pause, a shared moment to recalibrate and rise together.
It is designed to be nourishing, enlightening, and deeply connective; an invitation to expand your consciousness and carry it gently back into your life and work.
