A surprise element of the Ammerdown Centre for some people may be that it has its own chapel. This was erected, in 1853 by the sons of the first owner of Ammerdown House, Colonel John Twyford Jolliff and his ‘dandy’ younger brother, Rev. Thomas Robert Jolliffe. Called St. Mary’s it was originally intended for sole use by the family and staff but is now part of the Centre. The building has a surprisingly modern feel and only the pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and intricate stone carvings reveal its nineteenth century Gothic Revival origins. Some Gathering events will take place there but you can also use it for personal peace and quiet contemplation or simply sit and decide which religious scenes and figures are depicted in the stunning stained glass windows. Whatever your needs, it is certainly a place to explore and enjoy during our weekend. Details from http://bfvea.com/gathering2025/ # “Gathering2025” # “FlowerEssences” # “VibrationalEssences”

In the distant past, some essence producers enjoyed making scented sprays containing both essences and food grade essential oils. Now a change in the law means that you must be an expert in essential oil pharmacology to recommend their internal use in the UK so essence producers have turned to food-grade hydrosols.
The pan, below,is ready to make a hydrosol. It contains three cornered garlic plants soaking in water around an upturned ramkin dish. On top of the ramekin is a shallow Pyrex bowl . Soon an upturned lid will be placed on the top of the pan and the whole heated to a gentle boil. A bag of ice cubes on the pan lid will encourage the steam inside to condense and drip into the bowl to produce a hydrosol.
At the Gathering you can learn more as Angie Brooker will be in conversation with Saskia Majoram, exploring how hydrosols embody both the tangible and energetic aspects of plant medicine making them a versatile and accessible tool for holistic healing. Experimenting with the hydrosols will be possible during their session and the kitchen sink version will be scenting the Essence lab! Edward Bach suggested that his Rock Water essence, one of the Seven Helpers, could be made from any well or spring which has been known to be a healing centre and which remains untouched by human interference.
At the Gathering we will be providing samples of water from The Glastonbury Chalice and White Wells plus a free bottle from Oakhill Well, Somerset for you to compare, try...and even use to make your own spring water essence. Here is a conventional Three-Cornered Garlic flower essence being made at the same time as a flower oil essence from the same plant. On Sunday, 27th April Amy Murphy Watts will explain how to make essence oils and some of their uses. You will then have opportunity to look at the differences between the products, make an oil essence for yourself and go away with it as a small roll-on to try out on yourself.
