There are lots of breastfeeding specialists and organisations out there, and they do fabulous work, but bottle feeding parents are often left without support with their feeding challenges.
I often help families when their baby:
πΌcan't latch onto the bottle well
πΌstruggles with excessively fast or slow bottle feeds
πΌis uncomfortable with wind/gas/colic/reflux
πΌshows signs of allergies
πΌused to take a bottle but now refuses
When a baby can't take a bottle well, there is a reason. In the first six months, that reason is never that your baby "is holding out until you offer the breast" or "just isn't hungry enough."
In a bottle feeding consultation we talk about the journey so far, including birth and the early days. I look at how the babyβs tongue, mouth and jaw are working and the way they hold their body. We select and try a range of bottles teats, flow rates and other feeding equipment. I'll show the parents a number of feeding positions unique to their baby's needs and preferences. We'll practice some oral exercises that improve bottle skills. We work as a team with the baby to make progress.
If you'd like help now please give me a call or follow the links in my bio ππΌ. I offer home visits in London, video calls, and my book Breast, Bottle or Both is a great resource for general advice β¨οΈ
Sending best wishes for all of those feeling alone with their bottle challenges π€ππ
