Palliative care position paper published.
After several years gestation, the Dr Siva Nair and eight colleagues have published a Position Paper entitled, The role of palliative care interventions for people living with long term neurological conditions. The working party included people working in palliative medicine, neurology, and rehabilitation. It follows on from, brings up to date, and expands upon a similar document published by the Royal College of Physicians in 2008. It has been set in a new BSPRM format, thanks to the hard work of Jackie Campbell, the BSPRM Executive Manager.

Anyone wanting just the recommendation should turn to page 16 where the recommendations are drawn together with estimates of the strength of the evidence and recommendations made.

The British Neuroscience Association is holding a Festival of Neuroscience in Brighton April 23rd to 26th. Details are available and registration is open. The BSPRM is a member of the Joint Neuroscience Council and therefore our members can obtain a reduced fee. Moreover, all applications before November 30th have a further reduced, Early Bird fee. Call for Abstracts

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are proud to (re)announce the fourth International Congress on Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair organized by the Dutch, Belgian and German Societies for Neurorehabilitation and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology in the United Kingdom which will bridge the gap between neuroscience and practice.

This 3-day meeting with workshops on the first day is focused on the most recent advances in neurorehabilitation research ready for translation, providing opportunities to share knowledge, experience, and most recent developments in evidence, outcomes, and prognostic biomarkers in the field of neurorehabilitation.

The scientific program will include the most distinguished invited speakers in the field of neuroplasticity and neurorehabilitation, and will be dedicated to the management of most common problems such as gait and balance control, management of spasticity, cognitive impairments, as well as, implementation strategies of evidence in the field of stroke, Parkinson’s’ disease and MS. This multidisciplinary conference will be important for all professionals such as physicians, neurologists, physical and occupational therapists, nurses, movement scientists, bioengineers as well as those who are more involved in the management of neurorehabilitation.

The Scientific Committee invites authors to submit abstracts to be considered for inclusion in the Scientific Program at the congress. All abstracts have to be submitted through the abstract submission module of the Congress on NeuroRehabilitation and Neural Repair and must conform to the general guidelines for submission. Abstracts submitted via e-mail, fax or other will not be accepted. The online abstract system will take you step by step through the submission of your abstract. After having submitted your abstract you will receive a confirmation e-mail.

Important Dates
22 November 2022: Abstract submission open
15 February 2023: Deadline submission of abstracts for free orals and posters
15 March 2023: Notification of acceptance/rejection of oral and poster abstracts
1 April 2023: Deadline for registration of selected abstract presenters

Abstracts
1. The Scientific Committee will only accept original, up to date, scientific material
2. Abstracts should be submitted in proper, high quality English
3. Abstracts should be 250 words not including title, author names, affiliations, etc.
4. Graphs, tables, pictures and references cannot be included
5. Symbols or special formatting should be avoided

Required Information
Abstracts must be complete, relevant, balanced and written in good quality English. This will help review and selection by the Scientific Committee. Accepted abstracts will be edited by the Scientific Committee, but authors for whom English is a second language are strongly advised to have their abstract reviewed before submission. The following structure is mandatory when writing a balanced and well-designed abstract:
• One or two sentences only on the background / introduction for the study or the case report; this should simply justify the study and not attempt to review the literature
• One sentence clearly stating the main objective(s)
• A summary of the methods (no more than one third of the abstract length)
• A summary of the main results (no more than one third of the abstract length)
• A one sentence concluding statement
• A one sentence concluding acknowledgments

Abstracts should be formatted as follows:
• Length: 250 words excluding title, authors, affiliation, source of funding and conflicts of interest
• No images, tables, graphs or references
• Title
- No capital letters except for product names or proper names
• Authors
- Initials and last name only using capitals, no degrees/qualifications/titles
- Separate from the affiliations with a single space line
• Affiliations
- Name of department, University/Institution/Company, Country (not postal address)

NEWS ALERT!!!

BSPRM TRUSTEES:

The current constitution states “The Officers of the Society shall be the President, the President-Elect, the Immediate Past President, the Treasurer, the Secretary and the Deputy Secretary. The Officers shall constitute the Trustees for the purposes of the Charities Act (2011)” However the Charity Commission Guidance states that “All properly appointed members of that body [the governing body] are charity trustees in law, whatever they are called.”. Our governing body is, at present, the Executive committee, which has upwards of 16 members. The full list of Trustees can be seen here.

This page identifies the five Officers who are currently the named trustees on the Charity Commission website. Officers are all full members of the Society, and put themselves forward for election at the Annual General Meeting. Each Officer, excepting the Treasurer, is elected for four years, two being as deputy and two acting as the secretary or president.

The Treasurer post is elected every three years, and the treasurer may stay in post for up to six years.
