I’m feeling a bit uneasy after an extended festive period at home, working from home and getting used to bidding farewell to a year of being at home.

With masks, vaccines, boosters, lockdowns, travel restrictions border controls, hand washing, hand wringing and any number of stable doors being shut just after the horse has bolted.

Perhaps this year will be different...

But already this coming year makes me nervous as signs of division manifest over in Australia (not the cricket but Djocovik being treated like any other traveller with visa issues) and in the healthcare circle around us as the science and social impact behind mandatory vaccination and the pandemic becoming endemic within our population unfurls.

So, it’s back within the MyPhysio bubble and focusing on building connections, tolerance, respect and better health for the people within our care

Are you ready?! 2 days to go!!

You're going to need to make some room in your freezer for this one!

Have you had the chance to watch some festive films this season?

They actually have a number of mental health benefits. They are known to calm you and reduce anxiety as you have likely watched the same film every year and are subconsciously comforted by knowing how it ends and what to expect.

They also cause an increase of dopamine in the brain which gives you a boost of happiness.

Answer me honestly: how many times have you had to watch Frozen this season?

This is a nice and easy one!

It's safe to say it's definitely getting cold enough for snow!

Weather dependant, try to get outside and build a snowman this winter.

Not only is it a fun, mood-boosting activity, but the cold can actually do you some good!

You’ll soak up some Vitamin D while you’re at it which you’ve most likely been lacking in.

You will also be exposing yourself to some good bacteria that will help boost your immune system

What's the weather like where you are?

Your artistic abilities will be needed for this one! You can pick up the little canvas from places like The Works

Activities like painting and drawing can actually benefit your sports abilities too.

It increases your ability to concentrate for prolonged periods of time, hand-eye coordination and improves motor skills.

This can benefit any sport that involves a target, from Football or Basketball to Fishing or Archery.

Do you enjoy painting/crafts, or is it too messy for you?

5 days to go! How about a game of 'The Floor is Lava'?

Getting cosy by the fireplace is always great on a cold night, but it gets even better when I tell you that there are actually health benefits too!

Sitting by the fire can significantly lower blood pressure which, as I'm sure you know, lowers the risk of a bunch of unwanted diseases.

Have you still got a fireplace in your house? Or are you all about that central heating?

If you've got some spare lights and a clear bauble or snow globe, this could be the thing for you!

Though the festive season is filled with mulled wine and chocolates and is typically known for being 'unhealthy', the average person actually increases their exercise activity by 31% in December!

One benefit of this is that the exercise helps boost our moods during what can be quite a stressful time for some!

How are you finding things this December?

Feeling under the weather too?

Your body is naturally a little weaker when it comes to fighting infections due to the nature of the last 2 or so years!

Staying inside and keeping away from the cold keeps you stuck in an enclosed space and more likely to catch a cold.

We rely on our nasal lining to help prevent us from catching a cold, but the cold winter air cools down our nasal passages and slows down mucus clearance that usually protects us.

Just keep yourself topped up with the nutrients you need, and keep your home warm if you can

Got any spare candy canes lyring around?

Create a zip wire using some string and let your elf fly across the room.

Have you ever been on one yourself? Or are heights not your thing?

There are actually some benefits to facing your fears!

The adrenaline rush you get floods your muscles with oxygen and gives you more stamina and strength.

So, don’t be afraid to face some of your fears this season, whether that’s the rides at your nearby Winter Wonderland, or trying Ice Skating for the first time.

What will you be doing this month?

You might be wondering how on Earth there could be a health fact relating to this one...

Well, there is!

Did you know that even swinging on a swing can actually benefit your health!

The movement helps with the mobility of your joints.

Not only that, it’s been known to greatly reduce stress - providing you’re not afraid of heights!

Have you ever had the chance to go on a big swing? The ones that are 12ish metres high?!

Recreate this scene using some string, lego figures and some sort of toy car!

Although this might not be your usual gathering, surrounding yourself with like-minded people is really beneficial for you.

It's known to lower rates of anxiety and give you higher self-esteem!

This is also the case for those who are more introverted - being around similar people can give your mood a boost!

So, surround yourself with friends and family this Christmas - only 12 days to go!!
