What exactly is astigmatism? And what are its causes and typical symptoms? We've got the answers 💡

In theory, the cornea and lens of the eye are curved evenly in all directions. In this case, the eye produces a clear image. In reality, however, things are often a little different: for most people, the cornea - the outermost layer of the eye - is not perfectly evenly curved. This can lead to blurred or slightly distorted vision.

Astigmatism often occurs in combination with other refractive errors such as short-sightedness or long-sightedness. This can cause blurred vision at near and/or far distances.

The good news: astigmatism can be corrected with laser eye surgery.

Step-by-step of your laser eye treatment with Femto-LASIK 💡

First, the laser separates the top layer of the cornea and creates a so-called flap, which is folded to the side.
The main laser is then used to correct the visual impairment directly on the cornea.
Finally, the flap is folded back into place, allowing it to heal smoothly.
