As a new wave of women step into their mid-centuries, books reimagining female midlife are striking a chord. “We’re not going to do our 50s the way everyone’s telling us we’re supposed to,” author Candace Bushnell says.

This is the link to the second of Dr Christiane Northrup's video series. She includes fascinating information about the hormones involved in our menstrual change, which also relates to our increased stress-levels and heightened emotional responses. She cites meditation as having a 90% success rate in reducing or elimination hot flushes. This is where we come in. Self-hypnosis does exactly the same thing. both meditation and self-hypnosis take us into alpha state (a slightly slower brain-wave pattern than when we're in the normal full waking state). It's nothing unusual. it's the same state we go into when we day-dream or become engrossed in a TV programme. It's a state that calms us and increases our endorphin secretions and in so doing, decreases the stress hormones. Meditation is wonderful, but a lot of people find it hard, however, when we teach them self- hypnosis techniques, they find the process much easier. The added bonus with self-hypnosis is that you can give yourself positive suggestions that have a direct influence on the subconscious mind, which in turn controls our bodies.
