From an ambitious and slightly crazy idea, to our first version of the app, to building an amazing team, to being featured as App of the Day in the UK App store. 🎉🎉🎉

It has been quite a journey. We learnt so much and keep learning every day. We are just starting and working very hard because we know how many parents worldwide are stressed and overwhelmed at mealtimes.

⚒+🔬It seems like we have found a perfect combination of the latest scientific research and technological wizardry to build a digital tool that is evidence-based but also affordable and accessible.

🎊 Congratulations to the team, and thank you to all the supporters, users, testers and advisors. It takes a whole digital community to build a useful product, and we are lucky to have found one. 🙌🏼

As a parent who experienced feeding struggles firsthand, seeing a child feeding app selected from two million apps on the UK store makes me feel seen.

Mealtimes can be easier and happier. And we cannot wait to show you how.

I do not know of a better way to celebrate my birthday than by giving a guest lecture on feeding challenges in children for the nutritional program at my alma mater, Teachers College, Columbia University.

When I started my degree at TC 14 years ago, with a 3-year-old and a 6-month-old at home, and nine months after moving to the US, I struggled daily with feeding challenges as a parent.

Today I get to share my journey and learnings with nutrition students and inspire and support those passionate about working with families.

I hope to map out a clear path to getting the knowledge and experience to help many families worldwide.

I will be sharing the tools and resources that were meticulously collected and tested by myself and my colleagues to help streamline the learning journey.

No parent should ever feel alone and hopeless dealing with feeding challenges. A big percentage of feeding difficulties can be prevented if we can get support to parents when they need it most. And I hope my talk will add at least a little to the force that will change the tide.

A big shout out to my .app partners in crime .cormack and for their feedback on the slides, team work is where true progress happens!

When parents are *not* worried about the typical picky eating stage in the second year of life, kids are 3 (!) times less likely to have ongoing feeding difficulties when they are older.

At the same time, the amount of support available to parents at this critical point is minimal. The education and resources about frustrating but typical feeding patterns are unavailable to most families.

We at Easy Bites app see it as a unique and enormous opportunity to prevent future feeding difficulties in children.

And that’s why our brilliant team of pediatric dietitians, picky eating researchers, and feeding therapists creates tools and resources to democratize child feeding support.

Watch the space as we work hard to make our app experience more personalized and intuitive.

Feeding a family is a tough job, but we are bringing together expert knowledge, clinical experience, and a little UX magic dust 🧚🏽 to make it easier for millions of families around the globe!

This post has been getting lots of love on lately, so let’s bring it up and front!

Will also turn it into a reel for .app, make sure to check it out.

💡 Yep, two bites of chicken may add only about 1% of iron, but will likely affect how your child is feeling at mealtimes.

😀 The better kids feel at mealtimes, the more motivated, brave and competent they become.

😠 Pressure, on the other hand, decreases their confidence and meal enjoyments and can even make them resent mealtimes.

If you have serious nutritional concern, always speak to a health professional.

In the meanwhile, make meals about connection rather than nutrition.

Happy weekend!

Real story with two lessons:

1️⃣ Small steps can make a huge difference. When we designed the Easy Bites app, we knew that the Daily Tips will be fun and easy for busy parents but we couldn’t fathom the amount of positive difference they would bring to so many families.

2️⃣ Finding a way of learning that works for both partners is fundamental. Raising a child with a healthy relationship with food is teamwork. And we need all the support we can get.

With four countries, three languages, three kids and a dramatic career pivot behind the belt, I thought I had permanently settled outside my comfort zone.

But learning how to build a company and .app threw me much further off the familiar track than I could ever imagine.

The number of mistakes I made (and am still making daily) is enormous.

The number of bad days when everything feels wrong, and I feel like I am sitting at the bottom of a dark pit - still very high.

But I also have brighter moments when the clarity and a sense of purpose feel so delicious.

And realising that some of the brightest people I know are on my team (!!!) makes it all a bit surreal.

Thank you, , for giving me confidence when I needed it the most and for helping me remember that, despite painful growing pains, it’s discomfort that brings results.

If you aren't yet, follow .app, so many exciting things are coming.

One last reminder from .app!

May the force be with you this coming weekend ⚔️

Special occasions are great opportunities for allowing kids to eat as much as they want. When kids are allowed to get their fill, they learn to self-regulate and feel more in control around sweet foods. 🧁= 🧘🏾‍♂️

Kids are experiential learners that learn best by doing - not by being told! By experiencing an uncomfortable tummy after eating too much candy, their body will learn much more than if you told them “too much candy will make you sick!” 🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭 =🤒

📌Holidays like Easter or Passover can be perfect opportunities to practice unlimited access to candy and to implement structure around eating the leftovers.

If your child is older than 2, let them eat as much as they like without restriction at parties and celebrations.

On special occasions, it’s also ok to be flexible with your meal and snack routine, you can get back to your usual routine afterward. 🙌🏾

With Easter and Passover celebrations round the corner, let’s keep this in mind.

It can be extremely triggering to see our kids getting their fill of certain foods.

If seeing your child eat 5 lollies on a row makes you anxious, you are not alone.

It’s because our generation has been raised in the diet culture that has benefited the multi billion weight loss and “wellness” industry.

If we have never learnt to trust ourselves around food, how can we start trusting our kids?
