🌍✈️ Off to Dubai! I’m excited to attend the World Trichology Conference for the next two days, diving into the latest insights in hair and scalp health. I’ll be out of the office until Monday, 11th November, as I make the most of some annual leave and quality time with friends. Looking forward to returning with fresh knowledge and a bit of a tan! * We all know that last bit probably isn’t true* ☀️🌴

As trichologists, while our shampoos may not be prescription-based, their use is prescriptive - carefully chosen to treat specific scalp conditions such as seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis, and general scalp irritation. For instance, we may use a Cade oil shampoo, which acts as an anti-pruritic (anti-itch) to soothe inflammation, and a Cetramide shampoo, an antiseptic, to help prevent infection or bacteria. By using these targeted shampoos, we aim to alleviate symptoms and support a healthier scalp.

Hair Colour & Topical Minoxidil: What You Need to Know.

Hairdressers have reported seeing highlighted roots sometimes looking slightly brassy or even almost neon, and root tints appearing much warmer and giving off “hot roots.” To avoid this:

1) Timing is Key: Avoid using minoxidil 24 hours before and after colouring your hair. It can impact how the colour takes, possibly affecting the tone.

2) Prep Your Hair: Even if it’s been 24 hours since your last minoxidil application, make sure to wash your hair before colouring. If you can’t wait the full 24 hours, apply minoxidil at least 4 hours before and wash your hair afterward to remove any residue before your colour service.

3) Post-Colour Care: After coloring, your scalp might be more sensitive, so it’s best to wait 24 hours before using minoxidil again.

By following these steps, your hair colour will look its best, and your scalp will stay healthy.

A Little About Me

Hi, I’m Victoria. I’ve been in hairdressing for 35 years, managing salons, running my own freelance business, and now owning my own salon for the past 10 years.

Through countless conversations with clients over the year’s, I noticed concerns about hair thinning, shedding, and scalp conditions—topics not thoroughly covered in traditional hairdressing education.

To better serve everyone, I studied with the Institute of Trichologists on Harley Street completing a foundation level and an additional two years to become a Clinical Trichologist. This has allowed me to set aside certain Mondays to discuss any worries you have about your hair and scalp.

A trichologist knows the importance of referring to other professionals and working in conjunction to get the best for the patient. Here’s why we might refer you

1. Dermatologist: You may have a condition that requires prescription medication such as that corticosteroids or oral immunosuppressants that need to be admistered and monitored by a medical professional. Dermatologist can also perform scalp biopsies and run lab tests.🧑🏻‍⚕️

2. GP (General Practitioner): We may refer you for blood tests, or if we suspect issues like a thyroid problem, an undiagnosed chronic illness or nutritional deficiencies. A GP can also refer to counsellor / psychotherapist if stress or mental health issues are affecting your hair. 🩺

3. Nutritionist/Dietitian: If improving your hair health requires more than just a few dietary adjustments, a nutritionist or dietitian can create a tailored nutrition plan. Trichology treatments can still run alongside to complement the overall approach. 🍎🥦

4. Wig Maker / Hair Integration Systems: For those experiencing permanent hair loss, whether patchy, frontal, or total, a good wig maker or specialist in hair integration systems can offer effective solutions that do not harm the scalp or existing hair. 💇‍♀️

Healthy hair & scalp mayrequires a team effort.

📸 Oops! So, I thought I filming a little video after my first day at the clinic...turns out, I just took a selfie while turning the video on! Who knew pressing a button could be so complicated? 😆 Well, at least I nailed the ‘accidental selfie’ pose. Here’s to many more memorable moments (hopefully with actual videos next time)! 🏥✨📹
