Craving something sweet… but worried about your hormones?

In midlife, it’s not about cutting out the foods you love — it’s about how you eat them.

👉 Choosing ingredients like almond flour, cacao and healthy fats can help support energy and mood
👉 Fibre and protein help stabilise blood sugar and reduce cravings
👉 Small swaps can make a big difference to insulin sensitivity during perimenopause and menopause

Because when blood sugar is more stable, so are your energy levels, mood, and overall wellbeing.

Have you noticed your lips looking smaller over time?

It’s one of the most common (and often surprising) changes we see in midlife.

As oestrogen declines, collagen and volume naturally reduce, meaning lips can appear less full, less defined, and slightly flatter. You may also notice more dryness, fine lines around the mouth, and that lipstick doesn’t sit quite the same anymore.

Have you noticed your skin changing, even though your routine hasn’t?

As oestrogen levels decline, we see measurable changes in skin structure and function: reduced collagen production, decreased elasticity, increased dryness, and slower repair. What once worked may no longer deliver the same results.

The focus, therefore, shifts from intensity to consistency.

What is the most noticeable change you’ve observed in your skin in recent years? Comment below!

Could some of the symptoms you’re experiencing actually be early signs of perimenopause?

Many women associate perimenopause only with hot flushes, but the reality is that hormonal fluctuations can affect the brain, mood, and sleep long before periods stop.

Some of the more subtle signs may include:

👉 Low mood or feeling emotionally flatter than usual
👉 Increased irritability or feeling less resilient to stress
👉 Worsening anxiety or racing thoughts
👉 Sleep disturbances, such as waking around 3am

These symptoms are often linked to fluctuating oestrogen and declining progesterone, which influence neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, as well as the body’s natural stress response.

For many women, these changes can begin years before menopause, and recognising them early can make a significant difference in how they are managed.

Do any of these symptoms feel familiar to you?

Have you noticed more hair shedding since starting a GLP-1 medication?

Hair loss can sometimes occur during rapid weight loss, including when taking GLP-1 medications. This is often due to a condition called telogen effluvium, where more hair follicles shift into the shedding phase.

Several factors can contribute to this:

👉 Rapid weight loss
👉 Low iron or ferritin levels
👉 Inadequate protein intake
👉 Deficiencies in zinc, vitamin D or B vitamins

Are you concerned about hair loss? Is it time for a blood test or a review?

Weight loss injections are no longer niche, they’re becoming part of a wider conversation around metabolic and hormonal health.

Recent UK data shows:
• 2.9% of British adults have already used GLP-1 injections (≈ 1.6 million people)
• Women are more than twice as likely as men to use them
• Around 6.5% of adults say they may consider one in the next year
• Interest is highest among women aged 45–55, where peri/menopausal hormonal changes can significantly affect weight regulation and metabolic health

At The Harper Clinic, we see first-hand how hormonal weight gain, insulin resistance and shifting metabolism are driving this interest, which is why personalised assessment and medical guidance matter.

Weight loss injections aren’t right for everyone; and that’s important to say.
While GLP-1 weight loss injections can be a helpful tool for some people, there are situations where they should be avoided or approached with extra caution.

These include:

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding
• A family history of medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) or MEN2
• Active liver or kidney disease
• Gallstones or significant gastrointestinal conditions

This is why weight loss injections are never a one-size-fits-all solution.

If you’re thinking about weight loss injections and aren’t sure whether they’re right for you, a personalised consultation can help you weigh up the risks vs benefits: 📩 hello@theharperclinic.com

Have you been curious about GLP-1 medications but worried about the side effects?

It’s normal to feel cautious. In the early stages, some people notice feeling colder, more tired, or experiencing headaches as the body adjusts. Others may experience digestive changes such as nausea, reflux, bloating, or constipation.

At The Harper Clinic, we favour a “low and slow” approach. Microdosing and gradual increases help minimise side effects, improve tolerability, and allow your body to adapt. We also carry out blood tests beforehand to ensure safety.

In your late 30s or early 40s, not feeling like yourself and frustrated by weight gain that no longer responds the way it used to?

You’re not imagining it. For many women, this is the moment perimenopause begins to show up. And weight gain is often the most distressing symptom.

You can be eating well, training, doing “everything right” and still feel as though your body is working against you. That’s because this is hormonal.

For many women, we begin with GLP-1 support. Within 4–8 weeks, they start to feel back in control of their body again. Then we add HRT to support hot flushes, sleep, mood and joint health.

If you’re weighing this up and want guidance, book a consultation and let’s tailor the right path for you: hello@theharperclinic.com

Do you feel “off” on your progesterone?

While many women do well on micronised progesterone, some are progesterone-sensitive and notice changes in mood, energy, emotional resilience, or appetite.

The good news is that we now have better options for women who don’t feel quite right, including Slynd (drospirenone 4mg) and Navlée (dydrogesterone), which can be better tolerated and more weight- and skin-friendly for some.

If something in your HRT doesn’t feel right, you don’t have to put up with it.
