Practicing sun safety is important at all ages, however, studies suggest that approximately a quarter of UV damage happens to our skin before the age of 20!

We have plenty of advice for parents looking to protect their children’s skin from the sun on our Patient Hub, however you can find a few taster tips below:

• Babies should be kept out of direct sunlight, not only to reduce their UV exposure but also to reduce the heat load on the baby

• Clothing and shade should always be the first line of defence for children under the age of two. Broad-brimmed hats are particularly good as they protect the back of the neck and ears.

• Sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and a high UVA protection should be applied liberally to exposed areas of the skin and regularly (every two hours or after sweating/swimming).
