OVERPRONATING? This guy gets a lot of press and attention, especially in the footwear world. But what about when the opposite is actually happening? A lack of proper pronation through the foot/ankle. It can cause issues like chronic calf issues, plantar fasciitis, ankle tendinopathies and ITB syndrome to name a few. Likewise reduced pronation can be an effect, rather than the cause e.g. the result of a shortened stride from sciatic tension, reduced hip mobility/ impingement issues or linked to leg length discrepancies 🤯

5 years ago I took on .em as a new graduate at Balanced - we were mid covid and central London was eerily quiet still, we were essentially starting again from the ground up as a business. Emilie moved with me from Saint Johns place to Saint John Street, has taken the helm through my two maternity leaves and has been integral in helping the clinic to flourish to what it is today. Meanwhile she has gotten married, bought a house, been working with a cycling team internationally, completed further studies and continued to make an impact daily on the lives of her patients 🔥🔥Now, she takes on her next journey and challenge with a move to Germany, with yesterday being her final day in clinic.

Emilie is dedicated, caring, hard working and a friend, as well as a colleague, so we wish her all the luck in the world and I can’t wait to see what she gets up to next 🥹

TAPER TIPS for London marathon runners!

- Take it easy, the weeks of ramping up miles are done, it’s time to reduce the load now. It feels scary to pull back on the mileage when you need to run marathon distance next weekend, but your body needs it. You’ve done the hard work now, marathon day is your victory lap 🥳
- Nothing new between now and marathon day! Now isn’t the time for experimental yoga sessions, trialling a new energy gel your friend recommends, switching your trainers in a last minute panic or buying any new kit for race day.
- Sports massages / Osteo appointments etc, no later than Wednesday next week. Give your body time between a treatment and race day!!
- Fuel - consider your diet in the build up to the marathon and think through your food and running fuel for race day.
- Relax! Maranoia is a thing. You’ve put so much hard work into training for this moment, it’s natural that you’re afraid of something getting between you and that finish line. You’ve got this far, trust yourself and the process and try to relax.

Any tips for first time marathon runners in their taper? Add them below! 👇👇
