🍂 Talking about what you see on a walk, e.g. crunchy leaves, conkers, acorns, squirrels!

🍂 Sequencing steps to make hot chocolate or bake autumn biscuits.

💛💜 Today is DLD Awareness Day 💜💛
Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) affects 7% of people, and yet it is still relatively unknown. DLD is a hidden but lifelong challenge with understanding and using language. Early support can make a world of difference, so let’s raise awareness!

To support this year’s theme: You Can’t See DLD, some of our team have provided **Cake and Tea for DLD** in their school settings this week 🎂

We also wore yellow and purple to our team meeting this week, discussed DLD assessment as a team, created a short DLD presentation for school staff, a poster for parents, and we will be delivering a free training session for all our schools next Wednesday evening 😊

As part of AAC Awareness Month we collaborated with one of our schools to give a whole school assembly on celebrating communication differences. We taught the children some Makaton signs, introduced ourselves using TDsnap and talked about same and different.

The children had lots of fun practising how to introduce themselves using Makaton and how celebrating differences ties in with their school values.

West London Speech and Language Therapy was set up in 2013 by two therapists with 30 years of NHS experience. The team is commissioned to provide services into mainstream primary schools across a number of boroughs in West London, as well as to support individual families at home and in our clinic in Shepherd’s Bush. West London Speech and Language Therapy is dedicated to providing high quality services to all children, families and schools we work with. We offer assessment and therapy for children with speech delay/disorder, language delay/disorder, dyspraxia, stammering, global developmental delay, Autism Spectrum Disorders and other social communication difficulties.
