The Quiet Edge of Summer:

The last summer bank holiday often lands in that subtle in-between space ; where long days of summer and for some a feeling of freedom begin to meet the rhythm of autumn. It can bring joy and relaxation; for others, a quiet sense of unease. Often, it can be both.

The above can be described as liminal moments : times where change is felt, reflection emerges, and awareness can deepen. Paying attention to how we feel in these quiet edges can help us navigate work, relationships, and personal life with more clarity and presence.

This long weekend, what’s surfacing for you in this in-between space?”

🪴Therapist and Human: Embracing Imperfection🪴

We’re all just human.
Even when we guide others home, we are still finding our own way back.

I support others to regulate, to slow down, tune in, and find safety in their emotional world.

And yet, there are times when I struggle to do the same for myself.

Because I’m not just a therapist. I’m also a person ; with my own roles, patterns, and triggers.

I know what helps.
But knowing and doing don’t always arrive together.Especially when I’m tired, lonely, or caught off guard.

🪑Therapist me holds space with care.
👩‍🦰Human me is still learning how to hold myself, too.

It’s okay to be both guide and learner in this work and in life.

RELATIONSHIPS: love, friends, work …
Next time you feel that spark , or that strong reaction —> ask yourself: Is this person really lighting something new… or waking something old?
That instant connection (or discomfort) we feel with someone ; a friend, partner, or colleague — isn’t always about them.
Sometimes it’s about what they stir in us:
🔁 A familiar dynamic
🕰️ A past relationship
⚡ An emotional pattern we haven’t yet named
EmojiMaybe they remind you of someone you once longed to please. Or someone who made you feel seen — or small.

This shows up in love, friendship...and at work. It doesn’t mean the connection isn’t real.
But it does mean it’s worth pausing to reflect. and be curious. Because real connection isn’t always instant - and strong reactions aren’t always about the present moment.

Sunny Days and Mental Health: Helpful or Overrated?

Sunlight can lift our mood and encourage us to get outside.

But does sunshine always help those struggling with mental health? Anxiety, depression, or deep emotional struggles do not always lift just because the weather improves. In fact, while long-term sunlight exposure generally benefits mental health, some research suggests that short-term increases in sunlight can temporarily heighten depressive symptoms (PubMed 33905989)
Brighter days do not instantly bring relief for everyone. What matters is finding what works for you? How do sunny days affect you? # anxiety

Video link below ⬇️ Brené Brown taught me about empathy versus sympathy—and a long queue proved it! While juggling a heavy bag and a queue saga, I nearly said, “At least you…” Instead, I just smiled and said, “Queues can be a real hassle!” A reminder that a smile and being with the person can go a long way, even on our busiest days. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1Evwgu369Jw

Feeling stuck, wondering what’s in the box 📦:success, failure, happiness?

My 🐈‍⬛ reminds me that opening the box can lead to unexpected peace. Sometimes, uncertainty isn’t a trap but a space for growth.

In counselling, reframing can help shift your perspective—turning anxiety, relationship struggles, or life’s challenges into opportunities.

If you’re ready to explore what’s in your box, message me to start the conversation.

Daffodils in January?
When I saw these blooms today, few weeks earlier than expected, I felt disbelief, excitement, and hope.

It reminded me of how sometimes in counselling, the unexpected often holds profound meaning. From a person-centred perspective, growth doesn’t always follow a predictable timeline. Like daffodils emerging early, moments of insight, healing, or change can surprise us, often when least expected.

These daffodils feel like a reminder to embrace hope, and trust the process—whether in nature or our own personal journeys.
