The holidays often prompt conversations that don’t happen at any other time of year, so when families regroup in January, those discussions can translate into late disclosures, newly identified relatives, and estates needing to pause while entitlement is confirmed.

We explore why this happens - and how practitioners can manage it, in our latest blog. 🔗

January is when previously settled estate files might require a second look…

This “paperwork shuffle” is not a disruption - it’s a natural consequence of families having space and time to reflect and communicate over the festive period. For practitioners, the key is responding efficiently, evidentially, and with sensitivity, ensuring estates remain compliant while accommodating newly surfaced facts.

When new documents surface, family narratives shift, or beneficiaries cannot be located, having the right support in place is essential. Finders International works alongside solicitors to verify family lines, trace missing heirs, and bring clarity to estates affected by post-Christmas discoveries - helping matters progress efficiently, lawfully, and with confidence.

We’re proud to see Finders International featured in The Irish Times, highlighting the human stories behind probate genealogy and beneficiary tracing.

This piece shares a remarkable case where a nurse who cared for a seriously ill businessman in a Dublin hospital was later left a €25,000 gift in his will - and how our Irish team traced her back to the Philippines years later. Estates are not just about paperwork, but about people, kindness, and ensuring final wishes are honoured.

As our Irish director Maeve Mullin explains, modern probate work reflects changing family structures, global movement, and the importance of establishing the full picture, particularly in intestacy cases where unknown beneficiaries can radically change outcomes.

From tracing beneficiaries across continents to supporting solicitors with risk mitigation and certainty, this coverage captures the heart of what we do every day.

When a death occurs over Christmas, the legal and administrative steps are largely the same as at any other time of year. What differs is the pace at which supporting agencies can act, and the emotional context in which families are making decisions.

For solicitors, local authorities and estate practitioners, it can also be a time when complex estate matters arise - often with additional practical challenges due to reduced opening hours and delayed processes.

Yesterday we celebrated in style at Dabbers Bingo for our annual Christmas party - and what a day it was! It was fantastic to bring the whole team together from across the UK to mark another successful year.

Special shoutout to Ediva Bessa Simons and Ama Darkwa for kicking off the Snow Ball with an epic dance battle, and to Nijmeh Zeto, who somehow managed to win bingo not once, not twice, but three times in a row. Talk about beginner’s luck! 🍀

A huge thank you to everyone for bringing the festive spirit. Here’s to celebrating all the hard work and achievements of 2025 - and looking forward to an even bigger and better 2026! 🥳

🕊 National Grief Awareness Week 2025

This week offers an important reminder of the many forms grief can take — and the care required when supporting those experiencing loss.

At Finders International, we understand that our work often intersects with some of the most sensitive moments in a person’s life. In many cases, our researchers are the first to inform a beneficiary of a loved one’s passing. That’s why our teams have undertaken specialist bereavement training, ensuring every conversation is approached with empathy, clarity and respect.

We remain committed to handling each case with dignity, supporting families through complex situations, and recognising the emotional weight that can accompany unexpected news.

We’re here to help with compassion as well as expertise. 🧡
