UNTitled Theatre

UNTitled Theatre UNTitled Theatre - "…emotionally engaging and profoundly moving theatre." Both nationally and internationally, personally and politically.

UNTitled Theatre is a London based, touring theatre company that creates challenging and exciting contemporary theatre that is informed by the debates that matter to us and our audiences. UNTitled believes in the theatrical experience as one that provides food for the soul, we make magical and entertaining performance that brings people together regardless of their age, sexuality and economic background. Breaking down barriers with what is often difficult and complex subject matter and inspiring and surprising audiences with bold and challenging stories. We forge working relationships over a sustained period of time with associate artists such as writers, illustrators, composers, filmmakers and movement directors in order to unearth and develop a common performance language within the company. We play, work, fail and flourish together which enables us to make dangerous, brave and evolved work. We establish strong associations with charities / NGO’s and individuals including campaigners, lawyers and medical practitioners etc collaborating with them in order to make socially and politically engaged work that helps reach educational and participatory aims, making a difference with the work we make and promoting positive social change. UNTitled is a company dedicated to making work across the UK. It is important to us to look beyond our immediate horizons and venture further afield seeking out audiences and engaging in debate. Reaching out across the UK helps us make work that is reflective of diverse communities and at the same time ensures the experience of touring informs the work that we do in the future. We continue to be drawn to the challenge of working in the confines of non theatre spaces and try to make our work defy those limitations by creating pieces that are epic and ambitious and can transcend the walls of the theatre.

Here's a little sneaky peak from Collidoscope's rehearsals last month. Back in Birmingham next week for final tweaks before taking it to Birmingham Rep. If you haven't booked your tickets yet, do so. It's a brilliant, funny and moving show written by Hannah J Graham and made by UNTitled Theatre and Freshold Theatre https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8Au0nwZZ0U

Meet the artists behind the show. Original Music Rights belong to Simon Jason Smith

Thanks so much FPA and Brook! Can't wait for the awards ceremony. Fingers crossed. (and toes)

Just saw our next R&D session announced on the Greenfield Community College website. Looking forward to getting started again with what sounds like a great group of young women.

Wednesday we met the incredible Yas Necati-what an incredibly inspiring and clever young campaigner. We need more girls like this in the world. Yas inspired UNTitled Theatre to take into schools after campaigning to update s*x/relationship education and to make it compulsory. It was great to finally meet her and hear what she had to say on the subject of s*xism in schools and gender equality.

Tuesday was spent with Laura Bates, Suhayla El Bashra and the UNTitled team to discuss the research we have done so far. Really saddened to hear about the experiences young women encounter at school. Hearing the voices behind the statistics make it all the more frightening.

Great couple of R&D days so far. Monday we met with NIA -a charity that delivers cutting edge services to end violence against women and children. We were there to hear about the amazing work they do in schools with young people and are hoping to do some training with them in the near future as part of The Everyday Sexism Project. Very inspiring. http://www.niaendingviolence.org.uk/

For anyone who doesn't think s*xism is an issue in schools and that there is no need to address it from a young age, UNTitled Theatre have clocked up approximately ten hours of interviews from young people, teachers, education specialists, researchers and campaigners all proving otherwise. And we've only just started!

What a morning. UNTitled Theatre just spent 2 hours (in AD's old school) with an amazing group of year 10's discussing gender equality, s*xism and s*x / relationship education. All were adamant that they want more open discussions and better education surrounding all the issues. It's really time to start listening to them.
