Hi all,
Just to let you know that the earlybird for the joint British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) & Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM) - UK Conference of Chinese Medicine 2024 is expiring today.

It is taking place at Manchester Business School on 29th and 30th June this year.

We have a fantastic lineup of speakers and its a great opportunity to connect with friends, old and new!

This is a unique, first of its kind conference, with the BAcC and RCHM coming together. The theme of the conference is Yi intention - where we can come together as one community to gather our intention and manifest the future that we want.
There will be both acupuncture and herbal medicine represented but we have put it together in a way that all lectures will be accessible and understandable to all, no matter what your background.

We have a particular focus on Fertility, Oncology and Yangsheng with much more beyond.

FREE MOVIE SCREENING AND CHINESE MEDICINE TALK
FRIDAY 1ST MARCH
7PM-9:30PM
WEST HAMPSTEAD COMMUNITY CENTRE
Join us for the breakthrough Asian movie of the noughties, Shaolin Soccer, one of Hong Kong's best loved comedies. It has a unique blend of Chinese mysticism, CGI action and laugh out loud humour. It is a must see for anyone who is interested in Chinese culture, Chinese movies or who is just looking for a fun night out.
The principles that Chinese Medicine is based on run through all aspects of Chinese culture and movies are no exception.
Alex Jacobs, a Chinese medicine practitioner and Tai Chi teacher will give a short talk beforehand to give a little background on aspects of the film that relate to Chinese Medicine and culture.
This event is free but we ask for a £5 refundable deposit because space may be limited and we want to make sure that those that sign up are intending to come. The £5 is refunded when you come on the day or you can choose to donate it to the community centre.

In today's post, RCHM member Alison Seymour highlights to date research on the use of Chinese Herbal Medicine in the treatment of arthritis, including research looking into the effects of Turmeric extract Curcumin and the efficacy of a commonly used formula, Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang.

You can read it here

Please note that Chinese herbal medicine formulas should only be given by a sufficiently trained practitioner who uses herbal ingredients from an RCHM approved supplier, audited for safety and sustainability.

I'm screening the classic film Drunken Master on 2nd December, 6:30pm at West Hampstead Community Centre, 17 Dornfell Street, London NW6 1QN. Its a great fun movie starring Jackie Chan in his prime and the legendary fight choreographer, Yuen Woo-Ping. It has a lot of significance for both Chinese culture and medicine. The 'Drunken Fist' form contains 8 sections, each relating to one of the 8 immortals. I will be giving a short talk beforehand about the 8 immortals and their place in culture, Taoism and medicine. Hope to see you there!
