The Barkantine is a freestanding, NHS, midwife led birth centre located on the isle of dogs. We support low risk women to birth naturally in a home from home environment. We do not have a catchment area meaning that we can accept women from any area as long as they are happy to travel to us in labour!! We have 5 rooms all with en-suite facilities, a birthing pool and a double bed so that someone c

an stay with you following the birth. We opened our doors in 2008 and since then we have had over 2000 wonderful births. The aim of this page is to bring together people that have used the centre, past/present staff and anyone in support of natural birth and freestanding birth centres. We offer tours for women interested in birthing with us after 20 weeks. Unfortunately we are unable to answer any individual pregnancy related questions on this page.
