Managing patient anxiety after a complication is one of the most important skills for any aesthetics practitioner. Your clinical management is only half of the challenge- the other half is *managing the relationship.*

Here’s the plan for moving forward:

✔️ Reassure with empathy
Acknowledge their anxiety and validate their feelings. Patients need to know you care as much about them as you do about the outcome.

✔️ Communicate clearly
Explain what you’ve observed, what it means, and the step-by-step plan you’ll follow. Avoid jargon and be transparent about timelines and expectations.

✔️ Take action promptly
Demonstrate competence by intervening decisively and safely, whether that’s administering hyaluronidase, applying conservative measures, or escalating if needed.

✔️ Rebuild trust
Book regular reviews, check in proactively, and show consistency. Patients remember how you handle the complication more than the complication itself.

✔️ Medico-legal considerations
Document meticulously, follow recognised protocols, and ensure the patient feels supported every step of the way.

Remember: complications are part of aesthetic practice. How you respond can transform a potential crisis into proof that you are a safe, ethical, and trustworthy practitioner.
