“Every step, every setback, every moment, it was all worth it.”

Holly and Nick began their IVF journey at King’s Fertility after facing difficulties conceiving naturally. Married in 2019, they turned to us with hope and resilience, determined to grow their family.

Their first round of IVF brought the joy of a positive test, but heartbreak soon followed with a biochemical miscarriage. Still, they found strength in each other and pushed forward. It was their second round that brought them their miracle, a beautiful baby boy who is now the centre of their world.

Through every injection, scan, and sleepless night, Holly documented their path with honesty and heart on , turning their story into one of hope for others navigating infertility.

We are honoured to have been part of their journey and are deeply grateful they shared it with us. 💙

A breakthrough in preventing inherited disease.

For the first time in the UK, eight babies have been born free of mitochondrial disease thanks to this pioneering technique using DNA from three people. The method, developed and regulated under strict UK law, involves replacing faulty mitochondria to prevent genetic conditions.

Dr Ippokratis Sarris recently spoke to LBC’s Tom Swarbrick about the science, the ethics, and the future of genetic medicine. While he was not involved in these treatments, he had the privilege of spending time with the research team at Newcastle Fertility Centre at Life between 2012-2014 whilst finishing his training and is immensely proud of the breakthrough that his friends and colleagues have achieved.

His conversation with Tom Swarbick offered important context around how the UK leads in a carefully guided regulatory framework.

This isn’t about ‘designer babies’ - it’s about giving families the chance to prevent serious genetic conditions and welcome healthy babies into the world.

We’re proud to announce that Anastasia has been elected to the British Fertility Society (BFS) Executive Committee as a Scientist Member Representative!

She now joins our Director, Dr Ippokratis Sarris, who already serves on the committee as a Clinician Member Representative and Chair of the Training Committee.

This representation from King’s Fertility is a fantastic recognition of our commitment to both clinical excellence and scientific leadership in the field of reproductive medicine.

What a week! Our team has just returned from ESHRE Annual Meeting in Paris, where we caught up with friends, colleagues, and collaborators from around the world.

It’s always inspiring to be surrounded by so many brilliant minds in fertility and reproductive science, sharing ideas, catching up on the latest research, and thinking ahead to what’s next. From scientific sessions to impromptu research chats over coffee, it was a packed few days full of learning, laughter, and future plans.

Huge thanks to everyone who made it such a memorable and energising week.

This February, as we celebrate LGBTQI+ History Month, we’re thrilled to highlight a major step forward in reproductive rights for same-s*x female couples.

Under updated legislation, one woman can now provide eggs to her female partner for her to carry the pregnancy, without the need to be classified as a donor. In simpler terms, this means that the law now recognises same-s*x female couples in the same way that it does for heteros*xual couples and therefore doing away with the honorous, time-consuming and unnecessary screening that is usually reserved for those that donate their eggs to others.

This was a legal wrong that has now been righted. Reciprocal motherhood is a beautiful way to share the journey together, which is now supported be an inclusive legal framework that recognises same-s*x partnerships to be equal to heteros*xual partnerships.

At King's Fertility, we have advocated for this change in the law, ever since it became apparent that this discrimination existed. Our Director, Dr Sarris has been vocal about this issue.

Our Story

Led by Dr Ippokratis Sarris, King’s Fertility is a partnership between the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) and King’s College Hospital; a progressive and expert team dedicated to fertility research and care.

The FMF is a charity founded by Professor Kypros Nicolaides, a pioneer and an ambassador in maternal-fetal medicine. For 30 years, the FMF has led the field both nationally and globally.

King’s College Hospital boasts a great heritage in the field of fertility. One of the UK’s first IVF units, its successes span three decades.
