🌱 Want to change a child’s behaviour? Start with the adults.

Children don’t exist in a vacuum. Their behaviour is a direct response to the environment around them — and that includes us.

If a child is dysregulated, acting out, withdrawing, or overwhelmed, the most effective response isn’t to control them — it’s to regulate ourselves.

✨ Calm adults co-regulate distressed children.
✨ Predictable routines build safety.
✨ Empathy and attunement reduce explosive behaviours.
✨ Consistent, compassionate responses reshape the nervous system.

Their world is shaped by how we respond. The only real, sustainable way to shift a child’s behaviour is to first shift the environment — and that means starting with ourselves. 💛

Let’s stop asking, “What’s wrong with this child?” and start asking:
🔁 “What’s happening around this child?”
🔁 “What is this behaviour communicating?”
🔁 “How can I change my response to help them feel safe?”

Because behaviour is communication. And we are the biggest influence.

💬 Need help navigating your child’s behaviour with trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming support?
📥 Message us or get in touch at Restore Care and Support Services – we offer personalised behaviour support packages that focus on regulation, connection, and real-world strategies that work.

📝 You DON’T need a diagnosis to apply for DLA

If your child struggles with care needs, routines, or staying safe — you might be able to claim Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

👉 And here’s the important part:
A formal diagnosis is NOT required.

DLA is based on your child’s needs, not their label.

🧠 Is your child entitled?
You can apply if your child:

🔹 Needs more help than other children their age
🔹 Needs support with personal care (washing, dressing, toileting, eating)
🔹 Needs supervision to stay safe at home or outside
🔹 Struggles with sleep, regulation, or medical routines
🔹 Needs prompting, repetition, or specialist strategies every day

🛠️ Top DLA Application Tips:
1. Describe a bad day – not just an average one
2. Be specific – use examples of how support is given
3. Avoid minimising – be honest about the impact
4. Mention all supervision needs – even if they aren’t physical
5. Include supporting evidence – school letters, EHCPs, reports, or even your own diary

✨ We can help you understand your child’s eligibility, complete your DLA form, or appeal a decision.

You need to be believed.

🌟 We’re Proud to Be Gold – Trauma-Informed and Committed to Wellbeing 🌟

At Restore Care and Support Services, we’re proud to announce that we have officially completed the Trauma-Informed Practice training with ThriveLDN, earning Gold-Level Certification 🏅

This training reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting mental health, emotional wellbeing, and healing-centred practice—values that align with the wider vision supported by ThriveLDN and the Mayor of London. 💚

🧠 Why this matters:
Too many individuals and families face services that don’t understand the impact of trauma. At Restore, we’ve made it our mission to change that. This Gold award means:

✔️ We listen without judgement
✔️ We create spaces that feel emotionally and physically safe
✔️ We understand behaviour in the context of experience
✔️ We empower choice, dignity, and healing at every step

This is a core part of how we do things.

Whether we’re supporting families through EHCPs, mentoring young people, delivering SEND advocacy, or supporting provisions, our work is rooted in trauma-aware, compassionate care.

We’re proud to be part of that mission. 💛

🌟 Behaviour is Communication – Let’s Listen Differently 🌟

At Restore Care and Support Services, we believe that all behaviour serves a purpose – especially for children and young people with additional needs.

Whether it’s meltdowns, shutdowns, refusal, or running off… these aren’t “bad behaviours.” They’re messages.

🔍 Maybe it’s anxiety.
🧠 Maybe it’s sensory overload.
🗣️ Maybe it’s a need they don’t yet have the words for.

✨ We specialise in behaviour support that looks beyond the surface. Our trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach helps families and professionals understand the why – and build strategies that actually work.

💡 Need help with:
• Understanding challenging behaviour?
• Creating realistic support plans?
• Supporting emotional regulation?

📚✨ End of Year Reflections – and a Harsh Reality for Too Many SEND Families ✨📚

Another school year has come to an end… and like so many other parents of children with SEND, I find myself opening their school books that were sent home, only to find them mostly empty.

Not because our children didn’t want to learn. Not because they weren’t capable.
But because they weren’t given the support they needed to access their education in line with their peers.

While other children completed work, joined lessons, and took part in activities, ours were left behind — on reduced timetables, excluded from classrooms, or simply supervised without meaningful teaching.

These empty books aren’t a reflection of our children’s ability. They’re a reflection of a system that too often fails to include, support, or understand them.

💔 If you’re holding those empty books today, wondering what your children could have achieved with the right support — please know you’re not alone.

At Restore Care and Support Services, we believe no child should be left behind simply because they are neurodivergent, disabled, or need things done differently.

🌱 That’s why we’re launching a free pilot programme this September, offering SEND support sessions for families who need guidance with EHCPs, school issues, and accessing the help your child is entitled to.

Let’s make sure next year’s books tell a different story. One of inclusion, progress, and support that actually meets need.

📩 Drop us a message to register your interest in the September pilot.

SEND Transport – Apply Now! 🚍 Use this link👇
https://essex-self.achieveservice.com/service/School_Transport_Application

Graphic reads;
Even if your child has a named school in their EHCP, transport isn’t always automatically arranged.
You’ll need to apply if your child is:

Starting a new special or mainstream school
Moving to a different campus
Moving house
Entering Year 12 or above (this may involve a cost)

Post-16 Reminder:

You will need to reapply for transport each year- even if your young person is staying at the same provision.
If your child is moving into Year 12 (the academic year after they turn 16), you must reapply for transport—even if they’ve had it before. Be sure to state if they need to continue on a taxibus.

Don’t leave it to the last minute!

📚 Friday Thoughts: The Summer Term Struggle for SEND Families ☀️

As we approach the end of the school year, many families breathe a sigh of relief — but for those of us with children who have special educational needs and disabilities, this time can bring heightened challenges.

🎢 The routines are changing, transitions are looming, and support staff may be absent or stretched thin.
🧠 Children who thrive on structure often feel unsettled.
💔 Parents are juggling meltdowns, anxiety, and uncertainty about what next year will bring — or whether the support promised will actually materialise.

Let’s not underestimate how hard this time can be.
Let’s check in with the families, the children, the teachers holding it together with every ounce of compassion they have left.

If you’re a parent or carer reading this: you’re not alone.
If you’re an educator: thank you for noticing, adapting, and fighting for our children.
And if you’re a professional in the SEND space — keep speaking up. Keep showing up. The work matters.

💔 The mainstream school system is failing our children.

If your child has additional needs, you’ve probably been told:

✨ “They’re fine in class.”
✨ “We don’t have the funding.”
✨ “They need to fit in.”

But what happens when your child:
🔸 Can’t cope with the noise, the lights, the pace?
🔸 Doesn’t get their 1:1 support consistently?
🔸 Is excluded, punished, or sent home early – again?

This system wasn’t designed for neurodivergent children.
It wasn’t built for those with medical, sensory or emotional needs.
And right now – it’s not fit for purpose.

Families are battling daily just to have their child included, safe, regulated and understood in school.

We need more than SEND policies on paper.
We need training, funding, empathy – and change.

💬 Share your story if you’ve had to fight for your child in school. You’re not alone.
