💜"She understands the systemic barriers our young Black boys and men face… and she has shown incredible skill and heart in navigating all of this” says Tanya, a mother whose son has received support from SLaM.

Through the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF), South London and Maudsley is working to become an actively anti-racism organisation - and Peer Support Workers like Kimberley Penney are at the heart of that change.

💜Huge congratulations to the Secure Settings Service User & Carer Advisory Group (SUCAG), who has been awarded the The Royal College of Psychiatrists 2025 Award for Patient/Carer Outstanding Contribution to Psychiatry.

SUCAG is a hybrid monthly forum co-led by Lived Experience Practitioner Tanya-Louise Graham Matt and PPI Lead Zoe Linekar, where inpatients, community service users, carers, and staff come together to shape service provision through meaningful co-production.

Tanya-Louise said: “This award marks a new road for us in Forensic Mental Health Services. [...]It’s a time of change, of new positive public perspectives, hope, and upliftment. I hope you can join us in celebrating by moving forward in this direction.”

🏆This national recognition is a powerful testament to the group’s pioneering work in embedding lived-experience voices at the heart of forensic mental health services - an area where such perspectives have historically been underrepresented.

💜Resident Doctor Strike will be taking place from 7am on 25th July, until 7am on the 30th July.

While we have taken steps to ensure there is senior medical cover for all our wards and services, the reduction in the number of doctors available means some of our services may not run exactly in the way you have come to expect and there may be some changes.

📲Need urgent help for your mental health? Call 0800 731 2864 and choose option 1 to speak to our local mental health crisis line. We can connect you to local mental health services, including our crisis support teams and peer support services.

💜MP for Peckham and Minister for Energy Consumers, Miatta Fahnbulleh visited the Maudsley to see and hear first-hand, how we're tailoring services to meet the needs of the communities we serve. She met staff and patients and took a look at the rooftop of the Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People.

• 18 July - 17 August: South Asian food will be served in Maudsley and Bethlem canteen for staff
• 18 July - 17 August: Stories from South Asia and books by South Asian Authors will be highlighted.

💜Our new Chair, Jane Bailey reflects on her first month here at South London and Maudsley.

🗣️"Colleagues have been open with me about the fact that many of our services operate in a challenging environment, with high demand and financial pressures. I want to keep learning about how our Trust is addressing these challenges, what we can do better together, and how we can keep working towards improving patient care."
