🔴CHICKEN POX🔴
The outbreak is here. But what does this mean? Some children have it mildly, others not so much ( swipe 👉🏼).
It’s about 10 days off school/ nursery and if infected when an adult it can be very dangerous.
Here are some important facts about the pox and vaccine.
🔴 chicken pox is a highly contagious disease which presents as red itchy blisters and spreads over the body.
🔴 there is a vaccination available
🔴the vaccination is not part of the nhs schedule, it is only available privately.
🔴the vaccine can only be given once your child turns 1 year.
🔴 it is a live vaccine and cannot be given within 4 weeks of other live vaccines ( watch out for the 12 months jabs as there is a live one in there)
🔴although it is a live vaccine it is very well tolerated.
🔴if your child is exposed to chicken pox, they can incubate it for up to 21 days. If you would like to vaccinate them it is advisable to do this asap after exposure to minimise severity of pox. If they still get pox after first dose, more likely to be mild. Second dose not needed.
🔴 there are 2 doses, given 6-8 weeks apart.
