King's Maternity Voices

King's Maternity Voices King’s Maternity Voices Partnership aims to improve maternity care and facilities for parents and What is King's MVP? Who can join? We meet every 2-3 months.

King's Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP) is a friendly working group which comprises service users (parents that have given birth at King's or used King's maternity services), midwives, obstetricians and other health professionals, service user advocates and others, with the aim of working together to improve maternity services. We want you to make suggestions and share your experiences by tellin

g us what we have got right and what we could do to improve maternity services at King’s Denmark Hill. The Department of Health produced guidelines in 2006 that say there should be an effective maternity services forum, where commissioners, providers and users of maternity services bring together their different perspectives in partnership to plan, monitor and improve local maternity services. Any woman who has had a baby at King’s or at home in the last five years is welcome to join. Please email the MVP chair Omar Campbell and Vice Chair Michele Misgalla at: kingsmvp.southwark@gmail.com if you would like to join one of our meetings or be added to our mailing list. You can also email us with feedback that you would like us to share with the maternity team. If you would like to contact the King's Maternity team directly please email the current Head of Midwifery Mary Dehinbo mdehinbo@nhs.net

When do you meet? The meeting is advertised on our page and if you are on our mailing list you will receive an invitation. Currently, due to Covid, we are running our meetings online via Zoom. Please do email us if you would like to attend at: kingsmvp.southwark@gmail.com

Are you a present or past service user of an NHS maternity service in England? Could you spare 35 minutes online to anonymously answer our Research Survey?

This research is funded by The Funding Network and supported by the NHS South East London Integrated Care Board, PANDAS Foundation and PANDAS Chiswick. The research will directly inform the design of a novel digital tool built by Ellescope that helps midwives better identify mental health support for their patients.

We believe that we mustn’t leave it to mothers to seek the help they might need post birth; we must empower the NHS with tools that help them to proactively identify person-appropriate support services for EVERY presenting mother.

It was a privilege to attend the Black Mental Health event yesterday hosted by the NHS South East London Integrated Care Board at St George’s Cathedral.

Sarah, a service user who has been working with us on raising awareness around hypertension in pregnancy, also attended. It was great that we were both able to contribute perspectives on community approaches to supporting Black mental health and the importance of listening to lived experience when shaping services.

It was also really nice to see midwives and staff from the South East London Local Maternity and Neonatal System who we work with, and to connect with other community organisations supporting families across South East London.

Events like this are an important reminder of the value of collaboration between communities, service users and professionals in improving support for Black families.
