Maternal Mental Health Week

Being a parent is a full-time job. Being a working parent is two full-time jobs—plus the invisible labor that comes with both.

During Maternal Mental Health Week, we want to hold space for every mother juggling deadlines with dinnertimes, meetings with meltdowns, and self-care with school runs. It’s not just about managing a schedule—it’s about managing expectations, guilt, exhaustion, and the pressure to “do it all.”

It’s okay to:

Ask for help.

Say no.

Take a break.

Not have it all together.

Maternal mental health matters—not just this week, but every day. Let's continue to normalize the conversation, support one another, and advocate for workplace cultures that recognize the real needs of working parents.

To every mother doing her best—you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone.

Alongside receiving TMD physiotherapy, this lovely patient also made every lifestyle adjustment I recommended.

Addressing habits and routines that may be aggravating TMD is just as important as the treatment itself.

By doing both, the patient is empowered to take control of their condition—rather than relying solely on me.

This is something I truly pride myself on: ensuring every patient leaves with the knowledge and tools to manage their TMD independently. I want to be a guide, not the only solution.

Earaches are often linked to TMD due to the shared nerve supply (auriculotemporal nerve) and the proximity of the TMJ to the ear. TMJ dysfunction can cause referred pain, ear fullness, or tinnitus. Muscle tension or trigger points in the masticatory muscles can also contribute to ear symptoms. Otologic symptoms like ear pain, fullness, and tinnitus are common in TMD but typically stem from jaw dysfunction rather than a primary ear issue. Treating TMD through splints, physical therapy, or stress management can often alleviate these ear-related symptoms.

Yes, chewing predominantly on one side can exacerbate temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). This is because asymmetrical chewing places uneven stress on the temporomandibular joints (TMJs) and the associated muscles, which can lead to:

1. Muscle Imbalance: Overuse of the muscles on one side can cause tension, fatigue, or even pain, while underuse on the opposite side can lead to weakness or stiffness.

2. Joint Stress: Uneven forces on the TMJs can increase wear and tear, potentially worsening existing inflammation or joint damage.
