✨Meet Our Newest Pilates Star: Welcome Jess!✨

We sat down with Jess for a quick chat to get to know her better:

Yoga Rocks: Welcome, Jess! We’re so excited to have you join the Yoga Rocks family. What initially drew you to Pilates, and what do you love most about teaching it?
Jess: Thank you! I’m really excited to be part of the Yoga Rocks community. I was first introduced to Pilates as part of my ballet training, I used it as a warm-up before classes and also practiced in a fully equipped studio with the traditional apparatus. What I love most about teaching Pilates is the focus it brings: helping people connect with their bodies through mindful movement, technique, and breath. It’s a powerful, intelligent practice that builds real strength from the inside out.
Yoga Rocks: Is Pilates having as big a moment in Brazil as it is over here right now?
Jess: I left Brazil a few years ago, so I’m not entirely sure what the current scene is like. When I was living there, my experience was quite different, primarily taught in equipment-based studios, often in a one-on-one or duet format. Group Reformer and Mat classes weren’t as common, so it’s amazing to see how accessible and community-driven it’s become.
Yoga Rocks: What’s one thing you hope every student takes away from your Pilates classes at Yoga Rocks?
Jess: That slowing down is powerful. I always encourage students to resist the urge to rush and instead focus on technique, alignment, and breath. When we move with intention, we build strength, awareness, and resilience that lasts far beyond the mat.
Yoga Rocks: Beyond the mat, what’s a fun fact about you that our Yoga Rocks community might be surprised to learn?
Jess: I run a not-for-profit art gallery in Stockwell called Under the Spell, and I founded an independent film company called Paper Thin Films. Creativity is a huge part of my life, and I love blending it with the structure and clarity that Pilates brings.

Ho Ho Hold up! 🎅 Our sleigh bells are ringing and it's time for a little festive chill! ✨ Our Yoga Rocks Christmas schedule is here, and while we won't be dashing through the snow to every class, we've got some seriously good sessions planned to keep you feeling present this holiday season.🎁 We're taking a little time to re-charge our reindeer (and ourselves!) so there will be a reduced timetable over the Christmas period. We are absolutely thrilled to welcome to lovely soul that is Rich, to our regular teaching team!! 🤩🤩

As a Yoga teacher and L3 personal trainer, Rich is particularly interested in how the body responds to physical movement and breath. Originally coming to yoga as an antidote to a high impact / high stress life, he’s a proponent of yoga being for everyone, with its health benefits for body and mind.

In his classes, Rich likes to build upon layers of movement, before calming down and relaxing, with a strong emphasis on how a class feels rather than looks. Most of all, Rich always aims to make his classes enjoyable for all!

Rich will be taking over from Hannah to teach our Monday night, 7.15pm Hot Set Sequence class. No need for all you Hannah fans to be sad however! She’ll be back in the new year teaching two evening classes on Thursday nights! 😃🤗❤️
