1 month until I jump from the skies!

On the 15th of August I'm skydiving to fundraise for the incredible Crohn's & Colitis UK - a charity who's work is close to my heart. For years I have navigated my own journey with Crohn's Disease, a lifelong condition that has brought with it major surgeries and significant challenges. Just last year, a severe worsening in my health due to Crohn’s meant I had to cancel this very skydive, losing over a year of my life to illness, and undergoing a major operation just 12 weeks ago this past March.

You know me as your Podiatrist and Clinic Director, but my life beyond Holistic Health Hackney is just as active!

When I'm not in the clinic, you'll often find me cycling around, getting my hands dirty in the garden, trying new recipes in the kitchen, or adventuring with my daughters, husband, and our two beloved sausage dogs!

Barefoot is best: Happy feet, happy kids!

Did you know one of the best things for your child's feet is to go barefoot as often as possible? As a Podiatrist (and a mum!), I've seen first-hand how natural movement helps kids develop stronger, more flexible feet with better balance.

Studies show barefoot children have denser foot muscles and greater agility! When shoes are needed, I always recommend ones that mimic being barefoot: lightweight, flexible, foot-shaped, and with a flat, soft sole. Avoid those stiff "corrective" shoes – they often do more harm than good!

Choosing the right footwear now can prevent future problems, but remember: barefoot is best!

Happy Summer Solstice everybody!

What an amazing week it's been in the UK to get outside and soak up the Vitamin D. Hats off to everybody who kept up with their movement goals in the heat, and equally to those who listened to their bodies and took a break.

The summer is amazing, but as with all seasons there is an effect on the feet. Increased physical activity and warmer weather can lead to common podiatric issues like fungal infections, plantar fasciitis, and swollen feet that cause friction and develop corns. These problems can be exacerbated by sweating, improper footwear, and increased time spent outdoors.

“This August, I’m taking to the skies – literally! – as I skydive to fundraise for Crohn’s & Colitis UK, a charity incredibly close to my heart.

For years I have navigated my own journey with Crohn’s Disease, a lifelong condition that has brought with it major surgeries and significant challenges. Just last year, a severe worsening in my health due to Crohn’s meant I had to cancel this very skydive, losing over a year of my life to illness, and undergoing a major operation just 12 weeks ago this past March.

It’s been a tough road, but the incredible support from the NHS and the vital work of Crohn’s & Colitis UK have been instrumental in keeping me well - enough to even consider jumping out of a plane!

Right now, an estimated 500,000 people in the UK are living with Crohn’s or Colitis, diseases many people have never heard of. The real number could be almost double that, with thousands suffering in silence due to stigma and misunderstanding.

But they’re not alone. Crohn’s & Colitis UK works tirelessly to improve diagnosis and treatment, and to fund research into a cure. They raise crucial awareness and, most importantly, give people (like me) hope, comfort, and the confidence to live freer, fuller lives.

I am a strong advocate for barefoot living at every age.

Going barefoot as a child leads to better understanding of natural foot movement, and is much better for a growing foot.

As an adult, going barefoot significantly develops proprioception - your body's sense of where it is in space and how it moves. By honing this spatial awareness, you can improve your overall movement and balance - skills that are essential as you age, as they help to prevent falls.
