Dr Mohammed Khanji talks to the BBC about the joint initiative between BIMA, and to install publicly accessible defibrillators in mosques across the UK.

So far, this work has led to:

• 57 defibrillators installed
• 300+ mosque staff and volunteers trained in CPR and emergency response

The project also builds on BIMA’s wider Lifesavers programme, delivering CPR and emergency response education in mosques and community spaces nationwide.

May Allah place barakah in every effort made to protect and serve our communities.

There will be increased activity across London this weekend, including the planned “Unite the Kingdom” rally on Saturday. This is expected to make conditions for many healthcare workers busier and more challenging than usual.

Please plan ahead, allow extra time for journeys, and report any incidents of hate, islamophobia or racism.

If you need to report an incident or seek support:
• Emergency: 999
• Non-emergency police: 101
• British Transport Police (text): 61016

You can also report and access support through trusted organisations:
• Muslim Safety Net (MSN): 07311 876 378 SMS / Whatsapp 0303 330 0288 (message service) or www.muslimsafetynet.org.uk
• British Muslim Trust (BMT) helpline: 0808 172 3524
• Islamophobia Response Unit (IRU): www.theiru.org.uk email: info@theiru.org.uk. Phone: 020 3904 6555

For any healthcare-related incidents please contact our BIMA Support Clinic: support@britishima.org or 0203 551 2497 or website: britishima.org/advocacy/support-clinic/

In BIMA’s survey of Muslim healthcare workers following the 2024 far-right riots, we found that a substantial proportion of respondents felt unsupported by their employers or professional bodies. Employers must step up to ensure Muslim healthcare staff are properly protected and supported.

Support is available if needed, do reach out.

Measles is a serious viral infection — and 1 in 5 children who develop measles will need hospital care.

The good news? It can be prevented.

The MMRV vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect children, families, and communities.

BIMA has produced new guidance to help our communities better understand measles, the risks, and the importance of vaccination.

BIMA exists to create a space where Muslim healthcare professionals can thrive professionally and personally. A space where faith and professional excellence are not in conflict, a space where you feel at home.

There are too many Muslim healthcare professionals who feel silenced, unsafe, or like they do not belong in the spaces they serve. We want to change that.

Join us as we come together to build safer, fairer, and more equitable workplaces through collective action, advocacy, and community.
