Reflecting on BIMA’s Engagement with the Assisted Dying Debate
The assisted dying debate is not just about policy - it’s personal. As Muslim healthcare professionals, we entered the national conversation with compassion, clarity, and a duty to protect the vulnerable.
Rooted in Islamic ethics and NHS frontline experience, we raised concerns about:
Risks to marginalised communities, Systemic racism in care, The erosion of trust in and Moral injury to doctors and other healthcare professionals if assisted dying was introduced.
We called, and still call, for better palliative care, not assisted death - advocating for dignity, justice, and holistic support.
