Summer essentials☀️

Your summer first aid kit, essential oils edition, is here!

Here’s how to use them⬇️

Sunburn relief:
- Mix a few drops into aloe very for a calming after-sun rub.

Seasonal allergies:
- Add a couple of drops to a bowl of steaming water and cover your head with a towel for a gentle facial steam.

Bites/stings:
- Mix a drop into a carrier oil (such as jojoba or coconut), and dab directly onto affected area.

Chafing/rashes:
- Add 2 drops to a base of unscented lotion and apply gently to irritated areas.

Cooling:
- Add 1 drops into a spray bottle. Shake and mist onto the back of your neck.

Travel Sickness:
- Inhale scent from bottle or add a drop on some tissue and keep it close.

(Note: Always dilute essential oils before adding to the skin)

If you’ve never made your own candle before, we’ve got you covered… it’s a simple process and you’ll need just a few bits and bobs to get started.

Follow the steps above once you’ve got together your equipment (or use one of our kits with everything you need!):
-Wick & Sticker
-Candle vessel
-2x lollypop sticks (one with a hole in the middle)
-Essential oils
-Natural wax of choice (we use eco soy wax)
-Saucepan for melting
-Jug/paper cup for mixing & pouring

And you’re good to go!

Some handy candle-making swaps for your eco-conscious creations this Earth Day🌳

1. Opt for a natural wax. We love eco soy wax but other great options for candles include:
🌱Rapeseed Wax
🥥Coconut Wax (if you don’t mind the scent of coconut!
🐝Beeswax (if you don’t mind using animal products)

Many retailers use paraffin which is made from the crude oil and isn’t great for our health or the environment (non-renewable resource). Opting for a natural wax is more sustainable and as a bonus doesn’t cause black smudging or blackened walls!✅

2. Re-use empty candle vessels:
🕯️Refill with another candle (check out our refill kits!)
✏️Holding your pens/stationary
🪴Use it as a mini plant pot

With so much waste and landfill, recycling by finding creative uses for your vessels is a great way to make a small impact. And we always recommend refilling your empty vessels instead of buying a whole new candle✅

3. Create candles with 100% essential oils. This is not only better for your health, but also avoids using synthetic scents.

Synthetic scents can contain elements that are non-biodegradable, meaning they stay in the environment, contributing to pollution.

✨This International Women’s Day, I’m reflecting on resilience, self-care, and the power of community. ✨

I started making candles during a tough time, struggling with burnout. Blending essential oils became my therapy...a way to slow down, breathe, and reconnect. What began as a personal ritual soon turned into something bigger: helping others find moments of calm, too.

Building Yougi has been an incredible journey, and I’m so grateful to share it with you. Together, we’re creating something special.

How Yougi Started

I launched, Yougi, in October 2019 and since then created a natural fragrance range, hosted many candle making workshops in London and Ireland and collaborated with some amazing brands to create their own candle collections. I finished my role as buying and product development manager for an e-commerce homeware company in April to do a yoga teacher training in India and set up my own business. After discovering I had an allergy to synthetic fragrance ten years ago I began making candles and skincare products for myself and my friends. This hobby turned into a passion when I saw powerful healing benefits natural fragrance can have in your mind and body. My products disclose every ingredient and I’ll never compromise with synthetic ingredients. I’m proud to say they are vegan, ethically sourced and 100% natural. My aim is to help people gain a healthier mind and body though natural fragrance, tuning into themselves and being a little more mindful. Hearing people say they love my products or how they have helped, gives me more job satisfaction then I could ever imagine
