So great to see a patient who worked so hard achieve such good results. -satisfaction • 6 months post op today.
I was diagnosed with of the wrist (rizoartrosi) on both hands about 4 years ago. I saw 3 different specialists and had the same diagnosis and prognosis, which was that eventually I’d need surgery.
I had a very expensive and very ineffective cortisone injection in London with the first specialist - after which I decided to go to Italy and seek further care.
I found a young surgeon whose father operated my mother 30y ago for the same problem. Just a different technique! He was straight forward and made me feel comfortable enough to trust him. The surgery he proposed meant to have my trapeze bone removed, and the small tendons that control the wrist and hand moves re-routed.
2y after seeing him first I decided to undergo on my right wrist after a winter of constant discomfort, often pain, during the most basic every day tasks:
Twisting a key in the lock
Opening a jar
Putting the chain on my bike
Taking notes with a pen
It’s been a very long process to recovery. Two months off work being unable to use a computer. Unable to cook, cut my food, write, pick up a cup of coffee and so forth.
Many sessions of physio but the ongoing osteopathic support of the amazing Matt at and my own (why not) constant pushing to regain my straight and movement and 6 months on my hand is * almost * back to normal. Almost.
More efforts needed but finally I can see my hand functioning again.
Oh and yes I did keep my bone 🦴
