🤍A patient’s final wish: to be there for her daughter’s wedding.

With the help of teams at Whipps Cross Hospital, that wish came true. A pre‑wedding blessing was arranged at the Margaret Centre so PAM could share this special moment with her daughter, Elle, and Elle's husband, Modestas, surrounded by love and sunshine.

Just three days later, PAM sadly passed away.

“I will forever be grateful for what we did have—and that we got this moment” — Elle

Thank you to our incredible staff who went above and beyond to make this possible, and to Elle for sharing her heartfelt story💙

"It took us all by shock and came completely out of the blue"

When personal trainer David felt a strange sensation on his way to work, he had no idea he was experiencing a stroke. Thanks to his partner’s quick thinking and the specialist team at The Royal London Hospital, he received a lifesaving mechanical thrombectomy to remove a clot from his brain.

David’s journey has now been featured on BBC’s The One Show, highlighting our emergency stroke pathway and the incredible work of our teams 💙

New treatments and medicines in the NHS exist because someone said yes to research.

For International Clinical Trials Day, we revisit three patient stories from Barts Health and explore the impact trial participation went on to have on these individuals and treatment options in the NHS.

This includes Antoinette, pictured, who enrolled her son Raffy in HARMONIE, a trial testing the immunisation nirsevimab to protect babies from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The trial showed nirsevimab reduced hospital admissions for RSV by 83%. Last year, the NHS began rolling it out across the UK to protect around 9,000 of the most vulnerable babies every year.

In 2024/25, more than 31,700 people took part in research at Barts Health across 450 studies. Every one of them is part of how today's research becomes tomorrow's standard of care.

“It’s a privilege to advocate for patients and support compassionate, holistic care.”

That’s how one of our 40 plus End-of-Life Care champions describes their role, helping transform care when it matters most💙

From comfort boxes for families to better mouth care, training and support on every ward, their work brings dignity to patients and their loved ones at the most difficult time.

The difference is felt every day and is now recognised nationally as a case study in the NACEL State of the Nation Report 2025, one of just five organisations selected from 178 trusts.

A huge thank you to our EOLC champions for their compassion, leadership and commitment 👏

80 years old and just retired after more than 50 years in nursing🥹

This International Nurses Day, we’re proud to celebrate Sister Jean, who has dedicated her life to caring for patients, supporting colleagues and mentoring future nurses at Newham Hospital.

“The most important thing is that I’m always ready to look after anybody, even when I’m back home", says Sister Jean.

As Sister Jean begins her well‑deserved retirement, we also thank all our nurses for the incredible difference you make every day💙

🗣️ “All the staff have cared for and looked after me. I wanted to give something back"

One of our patients has raised nearly £3,000 for the renal team at The Royal London Hospital by making and selling handmade friendship bracelets.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, Raabiah Mughal began making the bracelets to help her stay calm, finding comfort in the creative process during a challenging time.

The money will go towards supporting the renal service and improving care for future patients at The Royal London Hospital 💙
