Have you ever thought about what gives you energy and what drains your energy?

When I started to notice my energy levels, I realised that a lot of my day was filled with things that were draining my energy and leaving me emotionally depleted.
By getting to know more about our body and what shifts our energy levels we can purposely start to do less of what drains our energy and invest in doing more things that retain and boost our energy.

Check out Angelica 'sbnew blog post as featured on Psychology Today to learn more about how we can feel less drained. Do share with anyone who needs an energy boost!

How do you switch off after work? Here is one tip to try now:
Create a transition from work to home. Our minds and bodies need time to adjust as we leave work mode and step into after-work roles and activities.

One of Angelica's transitions on days when she works from home is to create some distance from work by closing the door of the room that she works in and going into a different room or stepping outside into a different environment.

One of the most common topics I talk about with people relates to emotions: how to handle negative emotions better and feel positive emotions more fully.

I have a lot of ideas that I want to share about how we can live with our emotions more easily. However it is important to me that I create resources that are relevant and helpful to you.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this question:
Are you interested in more content and resources about how to handle negative emotions?

Please like this post if your answer is YES or add YES/NO/MAYBE to the comments :)

In previous posts I spoke about how compassionate statements sound like:

‘Stop!’
‘I can see that you’re scared and you’ve got this!’
‘I am sorry this is so hard’
Compassion can also sound like: ‘I am here’

We can offer this message to others and to ourselves during moments of difficulty. This message illustrates that we are sensitive to the suffering being experienced in that moment. It communicates that we are not leaving the person alone or abandoning ourselves when we are hurting. It is a demonstration of our courage to be with and sit with the pain without ignoring it. We can learn to offer this message without having an agenda to do something or prematurely fix the problem. Rather, we can just be present in whatever way is most helpful to them or ourselves.

Imagine how it would feel if you hear from someone ‘I am here for you right now’.

Imagine what it would be like if in moments of self-blame, self- criticism, anxiety or hopelessness you tell yourself: ‘I am here, I am not going anywhere’.

Try it out. Offer it to yourself or others and notice what it’s like.

4 steps on how to check in with yourself:

1. Pause and shift your attention inwards, away from distractions around you.

2.Notice:
What emotions am I feeling right now?
What sensations do I feel in my body?
What thoughts are taking up my attention?
What is my behaviour telling me about how I feel?

3. Understand what your body, emotions and mind may be trying to tell you about what is triggering you and about what you need.

4. Identify what actions you may take or not take to meet your needs and act on them.

It is so easy to get carried away by busy-ness and routine, and for our painful thoughts and emotions to influence what we say, what we do and how we react in our work and personal lives.

This happens when we are not self-aware because we become disconnected from our mind, body and emotions.

Learning to check in with ourselves, even for a few seconds a few times a day, can make a big difference to how we work, lead and live.

Check out this new blog post on MaltaCeos for more and share it with colleagues, friends and family who you think may benefit from this too!

In previous posts I spoke about how compassionate statements sounds like:

Stop!

I can see that you’re scared and you’ve got this!

Compassion can also sound like: ‘I'm sorry this is so hard’.

We can add in different words to this statement depending on the situation such as: ‘I am sorry this is so painful’ or ‘I am sorry you are hurting’ and we can offer this compassionate message to both ourselves and others.

A core part of being compassionate means that we are sensitive to the difficulty being experienced by ourselves or another person. This is not always easy because our instinct may be to ignore the pain, fix it and make it go away, and push ourselves or the other person into being positive and OK. However, this may not be within our control to do or helpful.

This is why courage is a fundamental quality of compassion that helps us do the opposite: to turn towards and acknowledge our own and others’ pain; to be with ourselves and another person with a warm, non-judging and gentle presence, even when it is uncomfortable. This can bring soothing and comfort in moments of difficulty even if the pain and problem is still present.

How important is compassion at work?
Thank you everyone for your poll responses. Here are the results. There is a 100% agreement that compassion in the workplace is very important!

Yes. Cultivating a compassionate work culture can bring so many positive ripple effects to ourselves, our colleagues, the team as a whole, and to the business. Developing the skill of compassion in each of us can:

- foster safeness at work
- where we can be vulnerable together
- courageously express ourselves
- and understand each others' struggles at work with sensitivity and without judgment.
- This gives us wisdom about what we, the team, and the business need.
- Compassion then drives us to commit to taking the most helpful actions, even when they are not the easiest ones.

Libratum is the Latin word for 'Balance'. We are here to support you in developing a well balanced (bene libratum) life.

We recognise that when we are faced with challenges in life, human nature can drive us to work hard to try to remove our pain and distress. Whilst this can be effective in the short term, in the long term we can find ourselves caught in a tiring and endless struggle with ourselves, others, and life.

We aim to work together to help you understand your emotional/physical pain, how it came about, what keeps it going, and how to helpfully manage it so that it does not feel overwhelming and dictate how you live your life.

Our therapeutic practice is grounded in a range of clinical experience and ongoing training. Therapy is carefully moulded to your needs and preferences and we draw upon a wide range of therapeutic models which enables us to address the difficulties as effectively as possible.
