My home, with this splendid view, is also my yoga studio and Zoom room this week. Taking a daily moment to reset, especially in this crazy world, is a no brainer, right? Yoga was designed as a self practice, a way to connect to yourself, in both body and mind.
It can be challenging to practise yoga from home, whether that’s self practice or joining a Zoom class. It’s totally understandable. Sometimes it’s simply not an option logistically, but many other times the biggest obstacle is the mind. It takes intention to use one space for a different function.
A small adjustment is needed and that includes your mindset as much as moving any furniture.

Maxine’s London classes are online and in person.
Suitable for all levels
Tuesdays 18:30 to 19:45
Wednesdays 9:30 to 10:45 (UK time)

Bring in the sun ☀️

We are all solar beings. We have a solar plexus for a reason — when we recharge, we feel energised. Let the light flow in and notice how your mood and energy can shift.

This photo is from the Home Studio after my self-practice this morning 🌿
I hope it’s as sunny and fresh where you are 🙏🌏

Nothing flourishes without the right nutrition and living conditions, humans included. Have you noticed that you are the same?
Spending quality “you time” on your mat — moving, breathing and letting go of what you don’t need with conscious awareness and intention — shows you time and again how yoga brings together all the elements you can directly access from within to support your return to total wellbeing.

Yoga is an ‘inside job’. It is a lived experience.
You may not be able to control everything around you, but you can learn to self-regulate and gently recondition your internal environment, helping you return to a healthier, more balanced ‘you’.

What a revelation that a simple 75 minutes on your mat in class together can change how you live :)
After all, what are your living conditions, if they are not in essence, a physical expression of how you inhabit your body😊

🧘Join Tuesdays at 18:30 and Wednesdays at 9:30 & 11.15 London time for a total reboot and recharge.

London Classes. Online and in person. Open to all.

🧘 Tuesday 18:30–19:45 — General Yoga

🇮🇳 Greetings from the ashram. This is a (not-so-great) selfie I took this morning with my teacher of 25 years, and Head of the Kaivalyadhama Institute (Kdham.com), Sri O. P. Tiwari.
His teacher was Mahatma Gandhi’s teacher. Yes, really.
It’s deeply inspiring to be here, and to dedicate time to immersing myself in practice.
Kaivalyadhama is a hugely important centre for India and internationally, with ongoing research into the scientific and therapeutic benefits of yoga, as well as its philosophical roots and original sources.

🇮🇳 It’s very nourishing for mind body and spirit to be here 💫

🙏I hope you’ll join me this evening online, 18:30–19:45 for a regenerating reset to balance mind body and breath.

I’ve been back at the Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute where I lectured, invited to run three workshops last trip at the international Yoga in Cancer conference. But this time, I was here for pure self-practice to be with my teachers, and to benefit from Ashram life. Here I am with my teacher Sri OP Tiwari, 94 years young. It’s been two weeks of deep immersion, a space for self-study, reflection, and introspection. This is called ‘Anusthan’ it means undertaking. It’s been an undertaking of daily practices; asana, pranayama, meditation, and fire ceremony. Trusting in the process, surrendering to the rhythm… and then, the shift begins. We often acknowledge how the body influences the mind, but the mind’s effect on the body is tenfold. True transformation happens when we move beyond automatic pilot thinking—when self-observation and intentionality activate a deeper awareness.

I reflect with gratitude on what a real privilege it has been over these last three weeks to meet the department experts at Kaivalyadhama and to engage in inspiring and fruitful discussions on all things yoga.

To learn is to grow. When we’re learning we’re generally moving forward. When we’re growing we’re generally happier.

What a wonderful way to close this year and to open up to new insights for the year ahead.

Thank you to Dr. Menon, Head of Scientific Research, Professor Bhode from the Philosophico-Literary Research Department, Dr. Bhalekar, Principal of the Gordhandas Seksaria College of Yoga & Cultural Synthesis, Dr. Bhutada, Dr. Gururaj, and Dr. Prasad from the Hospital and Health Care (Ayurveda and Naturopathy) for your generosity in sharing.

My sincerest thanks to Subodh Tiwari, CEO of Kaivalyadhama, for enabling me to contribute to this unique institution, and most of all, to my teacher Sri O.P. Tiwari, Head of Kaivalyadhama for your invaluable guidance.

It’s been so interesting meeting some of the participants to my workshops at the Yoga in Cancer Care conference, and receiving their feedback. And so great to ignite something within each person that felt relevant and relatable. Not just valuable information, but transformational. A joy to connect them further to what they do and what they believe.

In addition to conference delegates, many attendees were students from the Kaivalyadhama campus where I have been a student for nearly 20 years. The campus is home to a Yoga Teacher Training College, Yoga Therapy Training programmes at BA and Master’s levels, as well as M.Phil. students from the Scientific Research Department. What a lovely bright and enthusiastic bunch.

What an incredible Yoga in Cancer Care conference. Four intense and inspiring days filled with thought-provoking sessions and exceptional people.

With cancer rates rising and affecting us all, this global gathering of experts on yoga and cancer care couldn’t have been more timely.

From sharing medical data to exchanging methodologies, the focus was on driving change in our health systems.

A privilege to learn and connect with an amazing community of medical experts, researchers, oncologists, yoga therapists, survivors, and more — all united by a shared goal: bringing yoga into mainstream cancer care. Feeling inspired and hopeful!

Today is the first of three ‘yoga for cancer care’ workshops. Each will embody the healing principles of yoga. The intention is for participants to learn through their direct experience as they intuit the subtle changes in themselves as they move focus and breathe.

I will approach from a cancer sufferer’s perspective; from what they might need most at various moments - and show how a yoga therapist might work to best effect on both a physical and psychological level.

I’ve been through my own cancer journey ( stage 4 ) so will bring that knowledge in, alongside my therapeutic yoga work with cancer patients over the last 15 years.

The Yoga in Cancer Care International Conference started with two excellent pre conference seminars looking in and outside the box on approaches to quantitive and qualitative research methodologies.

Check in to maxineyoga on Facebook if you’re interested in more details on the yoga side of things.

It’s very fitting that the Kaivalyadhama Institute has instigated a visionary conference to discuss how the yoga can be brought into mainstream cancer care.

It has been on the forefront of promoting scientific research and applying modern medical scrutiny to the benefits of yoga and its application to modern lifestyles since it was founded by a scientist Swami Kuvulyananda, 100 years ago this year.
