If your hips feel tight, stiff or heavy, this quick routine melts things open with ease.
All you need is a wall.
Bonus: your lower back will love this too. 🌻

1️⃣ Hip Rotations – 8–10 slow reps
Lie on your back with feet on the wall and knees bent to roughly 90°.
Feet slightly wider than hips, heels pressing into the wall.
Let your hips rotate outward so knees and toes point out,
then rotate inward until the knees touch (toes turn in too).

2️⃣ Figure 4 – hold 5–8 breaths each side
Keep the 90° knee angle and cross ankle over thigh.
Slide closer to the wall for more stretch, further away for less.
Let the arms relax and the breath soften.

3️⃣ Butterfly Hold – hold 5–8 breaths
Soles of the feet together, knees fall out.
Adjust your distance from the wall so you feel supported and your hips can release.

Move slowly, breathe deeply,
and let gravity and the wall do most of the work.

Setting boundaries isn’t the hard part.
It’s sitting with the guilt afterwards.

That guilt doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.
It means your nervous system is learning a new pattern one where your needs matter too.

Pause. Breathe. Stay with yourself.
Energetic boundaries are an act of self-respect, not selfishness.

✨ One stretch, many benefits ✨

This thread the needle in pigeon combo is one of my go-to’s when I want to release tension in hips, upper back and shoulders at the same time. Perfect for after cycling or swimming/ walking or indeed sitting at a desk or driving !
One shape, multiple benefits, without forcing anything.

A few gentle reminders while you’re in it:

• Your front shin does not need to be parallel to the mat. Let the angle be whatever allows your hips to feel supported and level.
• Props are your friend. A block or cushion under the hip can make this pose feel much more accessible and grounded. I like a my Paddington bear cushion under my cheek !

• Move slowly and let your breath do the work. Each exhale is an invitation to soften, not to push.
• If Pigeon doesn’t work for your body or if it hurts your knees then try a seated or lying down Figure 4 with a twist can offer a very similar release.

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS: why do they fail so often?

One big reason is that we set promises for ourselves that are hard to keep. Over time, those small broken promises can quietly erode self-trust. We aim big, expect perfection, and when life gets in the way, we’re left feeling disappointed in ourselves.

My suggestion as we head into 2026 is this: move away from all-or-nothing resolutions and towards small, meaningful actions that rebuild trust with yourself over time.

One of my favorite gentle ways to improve hip mobility while letting the glutes and lower back truly release.

This stretch looks simple, but it works deep:
✨ Encourages internal hip rotation
✨ Gently releases the glutes and outer hips
✨ Creates space around the pelvis
✨ Often brings relief to the lower back as a result. Feel free to stay still or find gentle rocking movement see what suits YOU. Remember it’s your body you take ownership

How to do it:
• Start on hands and knees
• Reach one leg back, then cross it behind the standing knee
• Lower the knee down and slowly sit your hips back
• Let your spine soften and your breath deepen

👉🏼 It doesn’t need to look dramatic. If your hips don’t reach your heels, that’s perfectly fine. The sensation is already there.

💡 Move slowly, stay in a pain-free range, and use your breath to soften rather than force.

📌 Save this for days when your hips feel stiff and your lower back needs a little kindness.

If decisions feel heavy, confusing, or rushed it’s not because you don’t know what to do.
It’s because your nervous system is under pressure.

The fastest way back to clarity isn’t more thinking.
It’s breathing.

Slow the breath → calm the body → clear the mind.
That’s where aligned decisions come from.

There are a few things many of us were taught about flexibility that sound logical…
but actually slow down progress.

1️⃣ “You need to stretch every day”
Consistency matters, yes. But more isn’t always better.
Your body also needs recovery and variation to adapt.
Sometimes less, done smarter, goes further.

2️⃣ “If it feels tight, you should stretch it”
This is something I believed for a long time.
But tight doesn’t always mean short. It often means lacking strength or control.
In those cases, active mobility and strengthening work far better than pulling harder.

3️⃣ “The deeper the stretch, the better”
Depth without control doesn’t create lasting flexibility.
Real progress comes from being able to use your range with strength, breath and awareness.

4️⃣ You don’t need to be “flexible” to practice yoga. It’s all about meeting yourself where you are at today there is a practice for everyone
