A great idea developed thanks to Helen, who recently brought in a collection of old newspapers from her late uncle. Flicking through the pages of history, she thought: Wouldn’t it be lovely for our owners to revisit these memories on VE Day?
Inspired by this, Olivera created a special VE Day Exhibition to mark the 80th Anniversary and it is now open!
Come along to the Function Room to explore the display and reflect on the incredible stories of that time.
Opening Night: Saturday, 17th May at 7.30pm
Exhibition open until: Tuesday, 27th May
On the final day, we will host a Reminiscence Afternoon at 3.30pm with tea, coffee and biscuits and shared memories.
A special thank you to:
Helen for bringing the newspapers, such valuable pieces of history.
Olivera for putting the exhibition together.
Yasmin for helping with the set up and the great ideas about the presentation.
Belinda and Sally for creating the photo labels.
Mrs Ryde who knitted the VE Day square featured on our poster, a beautiful tribute and a real labour of love.
Miss Green, who brought in the old ration books.
Mrs Lyons, who shared photos of herself and her husband, and a small photo of her cousin in uniform.
The children of Chestnut Lane Infants School in Amersham for their contributions that added extra touch of warmth to the exhibition.
Let’s honour the past, together.
