As a live-in carer, you may be involved with: Companionship – sharing conversation and spending time together. Personal care – assisting with bathing, dressing, and when necessary, continence support. Helping with mobility – some customers need assistance getting around the home.
PERSONAL TRAITS YOU SHOULD POSSESS TO BE A SUCCESSFUL CARER. THE TRAITS INCLUDE:
1. Patience
2. Compassion:The chances are that your clients will experience frustration and even sadness. It’s essential to be able to empathise with them and try to understand how they feel
3. Dependability:When your client’s wellbeing depends on your presence and care, it’s essential always to be there when they need you.
4. Integrity: Integrity means doing the right thing when no one is watching. The carer role is independent, meaning you’re usually on your own, with no supervisor monitoring how you do your job. So having integrity and honesty is essential.
5. Professionalism: Being professional goes beyond having a clean and neat appearance. It’s also about respecting your clients and setting good boundaries.
6. Strong Communication: You’ll be working with clients all the time. This involves having conversations with them and answering their questions. Without good communication skills, it could be challenging to understand a client’s needs.
At LINDAY MEDICARE SERVICES, we understand that being a good carer is much more than just administering medication and doing chores. We encourage our carers to engage with their clients to provide them with a better quality of life.
We’re also open-minded when it comes to hiring our carers. While having previous experience can be helpful, it’s not a requirement. We’re more than willing to train new carers to help them become the best they can be.
