During lockdown, a patient came in looking really unwell. No travel, no obvious cause, middle of a pandemic. We ran bloods anyway.
The lab called. Malaria.
Her husband was convinced we'd got it wrong. The hospital doctor questioned it too. But the results were clear, and getting her there quickly mattered.
She recovered. Came back for a follow up, grateful and well.
This is why we don't just treat what's in front of us. We ask questions, we run the tests, we chase the answers, even when the answer seems unlikely. Especially then.
If something feels off, it usually is. Trust that feeling, and find a doctor who will too.
